ASUS XONAR_DG Budget Headphones?

I just purchased the ASUS Xonar DG as a temporary sound card and I am looking for some advice on a pair of headphones and sound card with a $300 budget. Am I better off keeping this sound card and buying a more expensive pair of headphones, or splitting the cost between the two? I am currently considering the following headphones:

Would one of these two be a good choice for the Xonar DG currently, and would a sound card upgrade in the future be worth it for these headphones? Alternatively, would waiting and buying a better pair of headphones and keeping the Xonar DG sound card put my money to better use?

Honestly, the headphones are the most important part of the system, but what's even more important are your own music preferences and what type of sound you want out of the headphones. What are you looking for out of your headphones?

The ATH-AD700 are bass light, great for FPS gaming, good for listening to audio were vocals are important.

But being bass light, it's a turn off for any audio were bass is an important part.

I really never use my AD700s anymore.

The Sennheiser HD-555 for that price is a great buy/value.

Not worth spending a lot of cash for a headphone amplifier for these two headphones.

The Asus Xonar DG is a great value and pairing for the AD700 & HD-555.

When you are willing to spend $$150 (or more) for headphones, that's a good time for something better then the DG.

I listen to a wide range of music so a pair of well balanced headphones would be ideal. If I was being more specific I would say a pair with good bass and excellent mids/highs would be good too since I listen to a lot of female vocals. I also use them for a fair amount of gaming, movies and skype.

I have an Xonar DG as well i went for the alessandro ms1i because i listen to alot of classic rock, pop/synth/folk and such. They sound great for that but they arent going to be the best for opera/hip hop or things like that because they lack soundstage and heavy bass. I just got the ms1i thursday it was between them and the AD700 they were in the same price range but everyone saying the lack of bass on the ad700's killed it for me.
