Need help choosing some new earphones...

Thread Starter

Hey all,

I've been searching for a while for a new set of earphones (or the occasional headphone) since the build of my Ultimate Ears 600vi's has been compromised...it's hanging by the wire at the jack end. I found my 600vi's to be quite clear in the upper ranges - it's pretty rich - and the bass decent enough for me. I listen to mostly 60s, 70s and occasionally modern music (such as electronica) so for the most part I've been looking for a more natural sound, though I do enjoy a kick out of a more pronounced bass.

I'm leaning towards in-ears at the moment, because they're safer in terms of style and I don't want something with it's own fashion statement sitting on my head, and I've been looking around the $150-$200 (AUD) range.

I can say I've been fairly ignorant of the Klipsch, Audeo, Etymotic and Shure, but I am well aware that they have produced some contestable products.

So, what do would you recommend?

I'd say the Klipsch Image S4 or X10s. I'm not an expert with IEMs, but I have both of these and love them. I think they would fit your style of music quite well.

Good luck.

The JVC FXT90, UE TF10Pro, Sony EX600, Etymotic HF5 (bass light compared to others but offers very detailed mids, extended highs and good bass response), Brainwavz B2 (bass light but very detailed like HF5) and GR07 are recommended and overall they offers great clarity and dynamic punchy bass.

How do the Klipsch Image S4 headphones sound with Pink Floyd?

As an owner of the S4's, I moved up from those to the Shure SE215. They were better, now I have the TF10's, they are better than both.

As we move up the money ladder, the sound generally improves.

I haven't heard the TF10s. I imagine they're good.

The X10s sound great, cost a bit less, and can't be beat for comfort or ease of use.

BTW, Pink Floyd sounds great with the S4s. I just listened to DSOFTM to make sure.

Moving up the money ladder does seem to improve, good thing I MIGHT be stopping the climb.
