senn hd558

does anyone know anything about the senn hd558? im having comfort issues with my new k240 studio. my head is small and egg shaped, and the headphones slide down ontop the tops of my ears after awhile causing a burning sensation, instead of resting on the nice headband. if only the headband was a little bit tighter. i am loving the sound quality they produce though

the senn's have that vertical oval shape, and look like it has a lot more room for the topish part of the ear. im just worried that theyre not going to be balanced, and not have the sound without coloration like the k240studio do.

are the senn hd558 neutral? are they as "dark" as people say, or not? for a baseline, i like the brightness that the k240 studio are, i enjoy being able to hear what tempo the cymbals are being played up front like on the k240 studio? the treble and bass seems very balanced then the mids a tiny bit behind which is fine. i wish the k240's headband was a little bit tighter, this would fit perfect and they sound great, so much better than any iem ive ever bought in the same price bracket

is the senn hd558 really too laid back to give rock/metal or rap its punch?

im looking for a neutral/flat/balanced/accurate phone that is semi or fully open back, circumaural and my budget is about $150

Dark?? No, they are bright, just slightly less than HD598.

And yes, there is much more room for the ears than K240 series.

HD558 is relatively balanced. No problem with rock and metal, but maybe not the best headphone for rap.

HD558 is effectively one of the best choice available in your price range. HD598 is just slightly more refined and detailled, but with lesser bass.

very good. and i hear the cheapest of them all, the hd518 have the most bass correct? thats odd. anyway, that doesnt matter much, the amount of bass on the k240 was suffice, im more worried about hearing details and clairty, and where each drum and cymbal hit is coming from, how hard it being hit, what tempo its being played etc..

i know the ear cups are replaceable, but how about the fabric on the underside of the headband? also why would they not suite well for rap?

also im worried about the brightness, becuase its a known fact that the hd650 is quite dark, laid back, not lots of punch in treble or bass correct?

graphCompare.php?graphType=0&graphID[]=2861&graphID[]=853&graphID[]=2611

according to the chart, theres not much more brightness in the hd558 than the hd650??

Fabric on the underside of the headband?? Its the same material than ear cups and its normally replaceable.

Not suit well for rap 'cause they aren't a bassy headphone, but its just my opinion.

look after 10 000hz, but believe me, HD558 is much more bright than HD650.

but the k240 seems to have much more bass and brightness.

According to the chart, more bass, yes and they seem very bright, strange graphics, maybe an error during their review. I haven't tried K240, but K242HD is not as bright.

i just want to be sure i dont get stuck with a colored phone before i purchase them.

According to the chart, K240 seem less balanced than HD558. I don't find HD558 colored at all, maybe slightly warm, but excellent all rounder for the price and much more efficient than HD24. series.

i see after 10,000 hz senn brings the frequencies up after a massive drop, versus the akg where it rolls off from a peak around 10k. what does that do to the senn sound? im sure that massive drop has to hurt the sound? if you understand these graphs anymore than me please help.

also how about soundstage, which we can tell from the graphs? how are the senn's soundstage? the akg's was awesome imo

HD558 has a big soudstage, better than K242HD imo.

The graphic show than HD558 has much more treble (high) than HD650 et K240.

nice, so its even more immersive than a k240 studio. thats good to hear, becuase i though the soundstaging on those was great, eveything seperated and positioned very well. thank you

anyone else with any info? i hope to make a purchase soon before the sale ends

oh, also another very important question. is the sound quality worth the extra $50-70 that im going to spend vs the k240 studio?

Yes imo, but everything is relative.
