02 headphone amp - MOD... Need help getting parts

For who of you who don't know the 02 amp is a DIY project which results in an awesome amp. I puchased an encloser one size to big to fit a little project I was thinking of. The 02 board has 4 extra holes next to the input and output of the amp to be able to add on to it. I wanted to put a string of LED's to an audio filter to go off at a certain range. I have a tip31 transister and I just needed to know how to mount the LED's without looking like poop. I purchased a cheap protoboard hoping to be able to cut it into the length that I need? If there is a better way please let me know. I am just guessing on parts and if anyone has a good idea or has done this before I would love to know tips.

Here is a picture to show you what I am working with.

It's about 4 inches long and 3/4 inch tall.

Pardon the crude drawing but this is roughly what I want...

The usual method is to snap perfboard to the nearest size by breaking the board along the lines of holes. You can trap it in a vice or just hold it flat on a table over a straight edge and hit the free part with the heel of your hand.  If you're fussy then you can sand the ragged edge. Buy some sandpaper and stick it to a piece of board (melamine) with spray adhesive or buy a made up sanding block if you don't have one. Always use a block or sand on a flat surface, don't try to work with loose sandpaper, because you can sand-in dips.

It's just a question of estimation and measurement and trial fitting. If you don't get it right the first time, you can have another go.

Okay I'll do that. It sounds easy enough. Thank you!

This is what they are, you drill your hole (to the size that fits the piece on the left), put the led in the piece on the left, insert it through the front of your piece of gear, then the ring on the right squeezes over the flared end of the piece on the left to hold it in place.
