Recommend me a sound card

Thread Starter

Hi I'm new here so forgive me if I don't post all the relevant information at once. I'm very ignorant when it comes to sound parts for the computer.

Basically I'm a music producer looking to upgrade my sound card. I need high quality sound (24bit, 96kHz if poss) with low latency input / output. I would like the card to have inputs for microphones and guitars if possible. I have around £250 ($384 USD) to spend.

I play a lot of games so if it has extras for games that is nice but I am really focusing on the audio production side as much as possible.

I use Reason and Logic as my software if that makes a difference at all to sound card purchase.

Thanks very much for reading I look forward to your replies!

Well, this complicates things. Proper audio interfaces with lots of inputs are lacking on gaming features, and consumer sound cards with gaming features don't really have a lot of inputs, usually just one or two mic inputs with pre-amps (one of them being for front-panel audio jacks in computer cases that introduce a lot of noise) and a line-in. If you want the best of both worlds, you might actually have to get two devices.

Check M-Audio site for one of their USB interfases

This soundcard was reviewed by Steve Guttenburg of the Audiophiliac and is highly regarded as one of the best soundcards.
