AKG K240 Help me decide please!

Hey, I am planning on buying a set of those fine cans but have a hard time choosing which one I should take. Amazon sells both the older Studio and the new MK II version. From what I red both are made in China now (which is not good) and both have the same drivers probably. The only differences I came across are that the new model has new ear cushions that are suppose to be softer for better ear contact, different plastic that is suppose to be better (or worse) quality, slightly different headband with thicker metal rails and of course the different color scheme and extra accessories. Is there someone here who had tested both to help me decide? I am killing myself between the two models. I like the gold and black theme on the Studio, but I also think the headband and ear pads on the MK II fit better to a degree that changes the sound. Did someone compare the quality of materials and sound of the older Made in Austria Studio and MK II ones with the Chinese ones? Also the Chinese Studio vs MK II sound wise? I know I won't make a mistake with ether of them, but it's really hard for me to make a decision. I also don't care much about the accessories.

Last but not least if there is someone here with a mint Austrian model for sale (Studio or MK II) or knows a place on the Internet that has some left in stock I will buy it 100% as I am sure the Chinese ones are build with cheaper materials.

Sorry for taking from your time and thank you for helping me in future! beerchug.gif

Well I am not sure if this helps at all. But I have the studio ones. And I believe they are the newer ones which are made in china. The headphones are extremely light and at times you could forget you had them on. They are very comfortable but the pads are not the best quality material in the world. That being said they sound great and I would def recommend buying them.

Well at least you wrote something. Thank you. For around 23$ you can buy the new velvet pads!

The MKII's come with two sets of pads: one velvet and another pleather (the latter must be the same as the studio's).

They are made in China and IMO they are good looking, the silver and dark blue combination looks great.

Not sure if you have one, but these definitely benefit from an amp.

I use my MKII with a FiiO e10 and, to my hears, it works.

I also like their sound very much, delightful mid range and not tiring at all (comfort and sound wise).

Edit: Oh and they don't feel cheap, the low end sennheisers feel a lot cheaper, for example.

Want to buy Made in Austria K240

If you want the gold then get the gold ones, if you really want velour pads then order them seperate if you get the gold.  The only difference would be the pads and the color.  My gold K240(made in china) are solid and the only thing i think would break on these in the next 10 years would be the leather pads.
