get a closed headphone, one thats easy to drive.

perhaps denon ah-d2000 would suit your needs. you can get a small cheap portable amp for it too.

That would probably in total cost more than the e7+e9 combo and HD650 probably though....

I heard closed headphones have crappier sound quality than open headphones is this true?

Start with the Fiio combo. If it sounds good for you then job done. But as stated by me and many others on different threads the e7 is the weakness so the dac upgrade will provide awesome results.

The D1 is also very good.

No. They just sound different. They generally have more impactful bass but smaller soundstages and less of a spacial sound. For critical listening purposes they are inherently worse from a case to case basis but there are still plenty of closed cans better than many open headphones within their price ranges. Denon headphones imo qualify less as closed than most normal closed cans though.

i suggested  closed because you said you need them for work and usually people don't want to hear what you're listening to.

closed isnt necessarily worse, just depends on the model and brand.

I prefer closed. Much tighter sound on bass plus more intimate with right brand and model.

I, for myself, am thinking about getting the matrix M-stage for the 650's. It's supposed to be a budget amp, but really good.

And now there is a version with bult-in dac!

Does anyone have experience with this pairing?

I suspect it could be better than the e9+e7.

I havent been able to find much comments on this particular combination with the 650's.

but a few presume it would go well with almost any headphone.

Ok after doing a little bit of research Im gonna get the Maverick D1.  Will the 650s plus Maverick D1 last me forever until it breaks?  I heard there are some noises when we use a usb...is it really that bad?  How much do these usually cost and where's the best place to buy them?  What is a tube pre out connection?  I heard that we shouldn't plug our headphones in there cause it'll be hot or whatever.
