iPod Nano 6th gen Dock > audio line out - >no sound

Just got a replacement Nano today, 6th generation, I tried both a Turbo dock (V12?  I can't remember) and an ALO bling bling dock to Govibe 5.  I'm getting no audio.  Do these new iPods only work with headphones connected, or do I need a different dock now?

Just one more thing I'm not liking about this new Nano..

Yea 1st gen replacement, if I knew what I was getting stuck with I would of just kept the first gen..though it was getting quit toasty in the last year or two.

Doing a restore on this thing now and see if that will fix it, been with out a portable source for 7 weeks now.

Found this older thread on Apple, now curious if the 6g even works with docks https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2592805?threadID=2592805&tstart=0

Well I just spent a wonderful hour and a half on the phone with tech support, senior tech support, and lastly someone to discuss "Apple's Polices" with me.

Senior tech support was trying to tell me that if the 3.5mm audio outputs audio to the iBuds, synchs and charges...then as far as Apple is concerned there is nothing wrong with the iPod.

In trying to describe the difference between 3.5mm output verses a clean audio output via the dock connection, the the tech wanted to get a bit argumentative and tell me that "Maybe it's a feature that is no longer supported"  "Maybe it's your car that your feeding sound too"  "maybe it's these dock connections need an update"  instead of looking at the real problem the Nano it's self. It's a refurb, could be something that was over looked send me another refurb and let's go from there.

So after quit the go around there going to send out a box, start the whole replacement thing all over again...but before hanging up they assured me "You will have the same problems"  "the problems are your accessories, sir"

Haha sorry incident. We are better informed in some cases than their own trained staffs!

Did you try to get the latest update and do a hard restset?  I assume with one and a half hour on the phone, that should have been done?  Also, some of the earlier ALO LOD may not work with the later apple ipod.  Try to find a LOD that you know will work with the later generations of apple ipod.  Or take you LOD to an apple store and try it with their newest ipods to see if it works.

I have a Nano 6 with one of the newest ALO LODs (and a low-profile one from Craig at Whiplash) and both work fine.  Older LODs may not as Jalo says.  I'd talk with someone at ALO and they'll tell you what is the right LOD.   I believe the pin configurations on newer iPods is different from older ones.....but I'm no expert here.

Best of luck.

Thanks Everyone, looks like I maybe wrong, I contacted ALO and they told me the earlier ALO LOD do not work on the 6th gen, Apple changed something and that I would need to get a new dock.

I dug out my Turbodock I can't remember what revision 12, 14, I just can't remember and that doesn't work either.   I really don't have the money right now to purchase another LOD, but hopefully sometime in the near future.

Apple asked me if I tried to reset the iPod, it already came with the latest firmware 1.2,  but I did a restore in iTunes twice before calling them. You would think after an hour and a half on the phone they could of just looked up to see if there was indeed any changes in the 30 pin dock connector.

Now I'm wondering if I should waste my time doing a warranty exchange,  this one does get rather toasty on sync/charge...but maybe it's just nature of the beast.  For now I guess I'll just get used to running out the 3.5mm jack, doesn't sound too terrible but running near max to push something as simple as HD485's... not sure if there still using Wolfson DAC's or what there using now.
