Looking for audio technica M50 replacment

Hey guys, recently my audio technical m50s have been starting to fall apart. Ear cups are torn to shreds, wire is starting to get screwed up. I was thinking I would look for a new set to replace these. I loved these phones so I would mind buying them again but I was wondering if there was something better out there. I was looking at shure shr840. Are there any other shure headphones to also consider?

I ended up picking up a pair of used Denon D1100's for $100 and sold off my M50's. They are now my portable cans.

I like the denons alot better, but im a denon guy lol..

Anyways the D1100's offer better soundstage, more detailed treble, lusher mids, however the bass is alot heavier than the m50's, i usually eq my cans to have a bit more bass but it is not needed with these at all.

And if you want to spend a bit of extra cash, I'd recommend the Denon D2000's. For less, the Ultrasone HFI-780's. And for a bit more, the Ultrasone Pro 750's.

By the way, how much do you want to spend?

I was gonna recommend the D2000's but didnt know if the OP wanted these for portable or in-home use... D2000's are a bit big for portable use but are my favourite can, you can pick up a pair used here for around $220-250

Actually, i won my D2000's on ebay for $175 and was not sure how they would compare to my m50's, as i was perfectly happy with them. when i received my D2000's they blew me away instantly. completely different level than the m50's IMO. and there are alot of things you can mod on them to improve the sound.

IMO mine are pretty close to the D7000's with all of my mods, but the D7000's have a different driver... im trying to convince myself i dont need to upgrade lol..

As an owner of the D7000's, you need to upgrade! devil_face.gif

Thing is, if the D2000's use the same frame as the D7000's (which I think they do), they can't fold flat. That is a *huge* problem when you're trying to be mobile.
