Will my receiver handle two Polk Audio Monitor 70's?

I'm referring to these speakers: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882290209

 

Will this receiver power the speakers effectively, or will they not sound too good due to lack of power?

 

I assume bi-wiring would have no effect(benefit)?

Shermanator, long time no talk,

The receiver will power the Monitor 70, no problem.

nice price after discount.

 

What ever happened to the RTIs?

Yeah, it's been a while ;).

 

They are working fine, but they are lacking overall sound in an 1800 square foot basement.

 

The Monitor 70's are just such a good price too, i'd be kicking myself if I didn't pick them up.

In a similar price range you might want to consider the Infinity Primus P362 or new version P363 tower speakers.

don't bi-wire. no benefits at all with bi-wiring. it's only effective if your running gauges under 16 awg or runs longer then 50ft. even then going thicker gauge be much cheaper and more effective. bi-wiring might sound cool but there is no benefits whatsoever.

I run 14 awg bi-wire to my Infinity Beta 40s.

that's cool. have you tried just using 1 speaker cable? i tried bi-wiring before and found no difference on most speakers i tried it with. i found it more useful passively bi-amping instead especially trying to match the woofer and tweeter for preferred sound. my current main speakers though are not bi-ampable or -bi-wirable but that's fine with me. i'm still using my 14 gauge silver/copper wire(i only got this cause it was on sell at the time due to overstock) i had for over couple years from re-using over and over.

After doing more research, and talking to people, I have changed up my decision.

 

It looks like i'm going to be keeping the Polk RTi4's, but replace the Pioneer receiver.

 

I think I need at least a 7.1 receiver (as they typically allow for bi-amping) to bi-amp my Polk RTi4's and future speaker upgrades. I also want to be able to plug my iPod right into the front.

 

The Yamaha RX-V571 and RX-V671 seem to fit the bill, but they are on the pricier side for my budget.

 

What other receivers would you suggest for me, keeping the price at $400 or lower?- Im not afraid to go refurbished.

Yamaha RX-A700 (refurb) is $285

Yamaha RX-V667 (refurb) is $249

These two are the cheapest models that come with better amplification internals.

I see the V667 for $249 @ Newegg, but can you link me to the A700, I can't find it?

 

What are your thoughts on Yamaha's Aventage line? Superior to the regular RX line?

The RX-A700 (refurb) just went up, to $299, at Newegg.

Avantage comes with a 3 year warranty (new)

V667 is only two year warranty (new)

 

Refurb warranty, usually half of what the new warranty is.

Or all refurbs come with one year?

 

The backs of both receivers is virtually indentical, like 98%.

 

The Avantage A700 is the V667 with some very minor changes.

Might as well go for the cheaper one.

Does the place you bought your RTI4s from have a price matching guarantee?

Damn that is a good price.

 

I bought mine from Crutchfield, I do not believe they price match.
