How to power two different headphones from the same source?

I have an iPhone4S, an HD650 and a Miles Davis Trumpet.

I want to play music from 4S such that both headphones can hear the same music. How do I do this?

Can this setup work?

                            _______amp #1____HD650

IP4S ---LOD out ----|_______amp#2____MD Trumpet

I suppose I need one LOD out, one coaxial Y-splitter (does this thing exist?) and two amps to adjust volume. Is this the right setup? Can there be simpler setup???

If the two headphones are similar or the same, is a single 3.5mm Y-splitter is enough? Is it necessary to put an amp before the Y-splitter to improve performance?

You don't absolutely need an amp, it just might not be loud enough.  a regular mini jack to dual female mini jack (radio shack) going into your iphone, then hook up both headphones to that - would probably work.  Or, hook your iPhone with an LOD to any small amp, then use a splitter as above to the 2 headphones from that.  What you do not necessarily need is two amps, unless you want to independently adjust the volume...but I see the problem, one of those headphones is much more sensitive than the other.  You would probably need to use a custom LOD, or an LOD with a splitter attached to go to 2 separate amps.  The other option is to not listen to music with 2 headphones at the same time.

The Total Airhead amp has two headphone jacks on it.

Forgot about that one.  The only problem is that the volume it would take to drive the HD650s would make the Miles Davis IEMs earsplitting.  One interesting idea would be to get someone to custom make you a double CMOY - two CMOYs in one box, with 1 input, but two volume knobs and two headphone jacks, and two batteries.  You could probably build it yourself for <$100, too.

If I can sacrifice a little bit for SQ, can I do it with one amp and a 3.5mm Y-splitter?

             __________MD Trumpet

IP4S -----|____amp__HD650

Then I can adjust the IP4S volume first to a good level for MDT. Then I adjust the amp for HD650. Does this work??

Good thinking.  That would indeed work, however you'd have to use the headphone jack of your iphone to plug the splitter in.  The iPod dock connector puts out a fixed signal that can't be adjusted (which is why it's used with amps) so you wouldn't want to directly drive the IEMs with that.  So you do lose a fair bit of SQ using the iPhone's headphone jack like that.

Try this

Iphone______LOD_______ Amp(y splitter)_______MD Trumpet

                                                   |_______Amp___HD650

A CMOYBB/ Fiio E5 will work well for the first amp with fairly low distortion and a more powerful amplifier for the HD650 can be used.

EDIT: Just realised that scootermafia has already suggested it but a visual representation never hurts right?
