Help needed for DT990/600

Hi,

I'm about to purchase a DT990/600, the order is placed already.

After much browsing through the forums, I tried to find the perfect amp and dac for it. However, I was unable to find that one amp that would drive these phones. I actually found a list of amps, but without any comparisons between them. I need help picking the one that would be the most in tune with the DT990/600, smoothing out the treble and bringing out the mids.

So far I narrowed it down to the M Stage,  the Millet Hybrid, the Phenix G3 and the Little Dot MKIII, IV if not then recommend any other amp around 200$

Also, would the the E10 be enough to power them, if not then would you also be kind enough to recommend a dac around 100$ too

Thanks in Advance.

I have the 990 600 ohm ones and I can say without a doubt that these cans benefit immensely from OTL tube amps.  OTL tube amps provide the voltage swings and damping to make these cans sound their best.  They also benefit from some of the voicing differences that tube amps offer. OTL tube amps put meat on the bones, tame some of the treble, reduce some of the sibilance, and put some life back into the mid range.  The 990s have a "U shape eq curve", so the the mids are slightly recessed.  Tubes give the 990s a little bloom in the mid range, bringing them back to life, which is pleasing to me.

I've tried my 990s on solid state gear, and I was less than impressed.  Solid state gear isn't as good at providing the voltage swings needed for these high impedance cans.  When using these cans on my solid state amps, they sound a little dry, light, and the treble and sibilance comes back.

I'm sure there are people who agree with me, and those who won't, but for me, when it comes to the 990 600 ohms, it's OTL tube amps or nothing.
