Problem with Studio Beats By Dre. Best headphones under $300

Hey guys, brand new here so bear with me. I just bought a pair of studios tonight, thinking they were all that, etc, without really doin any homework. I used them at the gym, and when I went to pause the headphones from the right side, whenever I touch the edge of that circle that you push down to pause the music, the music cuts in and out (not paused), and you can also hear some static. Simply put, instead of pausing the music like the button's original function should be, i get static with choppy music. I don't even need to really press the button down, running my fingers around the edge of it can cause the problem too. I was running the headphones out of my Iphone so idk if thats the problem. I'm thinking of returning these headphones and getting something different after reading on here that the studios are average at best. My question then is, what are the best headphones I can get under $300 that deliver really good sound quality with good bass? Id also like something that only I can bump to, and not everyone else around me because the volume is turned all the way up.

One last thing, I would like the headphones to be easily portable, since I am only going to be using them to workout and while walking around on campus and such.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, Im in a hurry!

Thanks guys

Ultrasone Pro 900 if you can get them used. If not, Denon D2000.

I wouldn't count ninjasquirt's recommendations as protable. but since you could do the same thigns with the Studio's which are just as big as the headphones he recommended. Then i guess full size is a go :)

Vmoda LP2

ATH M50

-what ninja squirt recommended. i don't think D2000's are too bass emphasized though

HFI 580

Sony XB1000 (reviews have pinned this to be the first heapdhone that audiophiles will actually like :)

if you want real portability and bass:

hd 25-1 ii

AH-5000's if gone used. Great headphones especially with J$ pads.

The button isnt supposed to pause the music! it just mutes the headphones when you hold the button down sooo i dont know what your complaining about. and as for the static, i really dont know tbh, ring monster and ask them about it. But id keep your studio's just find out the problem and correct it smily_headphones1.gif
