STX messy bass

Thread Starter

Hey,

I have ASUS Xonar Essence STX, and after listening with some headphones via the card I can tell the bass of the STX seems to be a little bit messy.
It's not a lake bass, but the very low bass sounds a very distorted, rough and not clean.
any EQ is off, Hi-fi mode is on.

Anyone else feels the same?
Can it be that my STX is somewhat broken...?
Thank you.

Around what frequency? With which headphones? Compared to what? I don't have a problem myself.

I would look to your phones as being the problem child here as the bass is nice & clean no matter what I use with it however my current headphone collection is pretty small of late but of the ones I do have that sound any different than on my other sources the STX sounds more focused, not less & distortion seems less.
