Looking for IEMs Under $120

Hello Everyone,

I just received a set of Bose MIE2i's, and while I don't mind the open-ear design, they have much too much bass for my liking (I listen to mostly rock music, and I hate when bass and drums get in the way of vocals and electric guitar).  I am looking to return them and replace them with another pair of approximately the same value (iPod mic and controls are necessary).

So far, I have heard good things about S4i's and MC3's.  I've heard that the MC3's have a weaker and more balanced bass, which may be what I'm looking for.

And, if I manage to find a pair of HF3's within my price range, would they be the correct choice over your recommendation?

Thank you very much.

If you dislike too much bass, then the S4's aren't for you. Etymotic IEMs are renowned for lots of treble but are notorious for their lack of bass, so I wouldn't recommend them either.

Why would the Ety's be bad?  And by a balanced bass, I was referring to a more balanced overall sound.  I'm just saying, I don't like bass in my music that much at all.  So much so, I dislike most rap/R&B for it.

And if you would not recommend the MC3's and the S4i's, then what would you recommend?

Any suggestions on where to look?  Amazon has them at like $150 (which is pricey, especially without a remote).  And the Triple.Fi 10vi seems to be going for a lot more than the Triple.Fi 10 (I'm looking for something with the built-in iPhone controls, but if a certain brand is exceptionally better, I'll make an exception).

I think you can buy HF5(highly recommended)under this budget and they are very detailed in mids with extended highs and vocals, instruments sound clear and balanced with good bass response. The other IEMs like RE0, M4, HF3, EX510 and B2 offers detailed and balance soundsignature.

Etymotic HF5

Ultimate Ears UE700

JVC FXT-90

Haha interesting, why do you say that?  I think the UE700 is one of the best IEM's I've heard for the money, I think it's the best IEM there is for $99!

After all, it uses the exact same driver (Knowles TWFK) as in the Audio Technica CK10 ($259), and sounds quite similiar, I've owned both!

Edit:  I think the only weakness of the UE700 is in the bass, the bass isn't very good at low or high volumes, it's only good at medium volumes, and the CK10 has more sub-bass and more quality there.

However, the UE700 almost exceeds the CK10 in the dry lucid mids and the airy out of this world highs.

Cable quality and housing quality is OK for $99 but the CK10 is 10 times better there I suppose.

RE-Zero is the same price as the UE700, and I think we can say the same construction quality, if not less. tongue_smile.gif

I have only heard the RE0, all I can say is I much preferred the RE252 and especially the RE272.

Shouldn't you include the Westone UM1 since they are detail and have good midrange but slightly flatter on the bass.

I doubt the Westone UM1 can compete with something like the JVC FXT-90, but I haven't heard either so I don't know for sure.

The ER-4 (/HF5) is easily the most esteemed single BA driver there is.

He could always extend his budget and go for Sony EX600 (around $130), which is an IEM with a very good track record, haven't seen a negative review yet.
