Hi guys,
I have the ATH-M50 and I love them a lot. They sound great, but do I need a portable amp for them? If I do get one, would the Fiio E5/E6 amp be a good choice?
Thanks,

Anyone?
Works just fine with my E6. I'm happy with the combination.
Okay, but do I need an amp for my ATH-M50?
You don't really *need* an amp with the M50, as they are fairly easy to drive... Unless of course you have a seriously underpowered source.
But then again, like many other headphones, it can benefit from amping. Good example: my own ATH-ES10, does just fine on the headphone out of my laptop, Sansa Fuze or S:Flo2, but I like it better with a little amplification from my iBasso D2+ or, when I'm in a bassy mood, my Fiio E7.
I didn't like the E5 very much, I have no experience with the E6, but from personal experience I can tell you that you 'outgrow' those tiny amps pretty quickly. I recommend to go a step up from those right away and go with something like the Fiio E7 or the iBasso D-Zero. Yes they are a little bigger and a bit more expensive, but they are soooooo much better :) And they both have an USB DAC too, so a bit more multipurpose...
If you are driving them out of an Ipod/ PC headphone out, maybe, because the Ipod's output impedance is 7 ohm so you may want a cheap amp to get less distortion. On this regard the E5 the better amp. I hated my E6 and almost threw it in the trash the moment I laid my hands on it. E11 is another good amp though.

So I may buy the E5 amp. On my computer, my headphones sound better and louder than on my iPod. Is this normal? If I buy the E5, I will just use them with my iPod, not my computer. :)

Okay, thanks for the info! I appreciate it. I don't want big amps, so I am going to buy the E5, because it's small and portable.
Better is subjective but for me its definitely an improvement from Ipod's headphone out. Pair it up with a FiiO L9 LOD cable, it will improve things.
Okay I will buy that with my E5.
