Which T amp should I use to power Sony SS-F6000 towers?

My roommates and I are looking to get a new sound system for our college house. We have Klipsch Promedia 2.1 speakers right now but they're not quite loud enough nor have as much bass as we'd like (for having parties at our house).

After lurking this forum for a while, I realized that T amps are a cheaper alternative to powering passive speakers than a stereo receiver. I was wondering though, if I were to purchase the Sony SS-F6000 floor standing speakers (180w max power handling), what wpc T amp would you all recommend? We want the speakers to be louder than our current Promedia 2.1 speakers so I don't know if something like this would cut it: http://www.amazon.com/Lepai-Tripath-TA2020-Class-T-Amplifier/dp/B0049P6OTI/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1325003262&sr=1-2

Can anyone offer suggestions as to the best (and preferably cheapest) way to power these?

Thank you in advance!

Anybody? I'm really clueless when it comes to this, any help is appreciated!

Those Sony speakers have an impedance of 8 Ohms. That little T amp can output about 10 watts before hitting distortion levels that risk destroying the drivers in those speakers. Loud? Nope. Bass? No.

Thanks for the reply. What would you recommend to power the speakers?

I'd suggest a used receiver on eBay. If you spend $150 or so, you can get a nice Denon, Onkyo, or Pioneer. Look for something that's in good shape and weighs at least 25lbs. and you should be good to go. With a surround receiver you can also add additional pairs of speakers and a subwoofer if you want. T amps are generally 2 channel only.

Ok I will look around on there, thanks. If I didn't want to spend as much, though, say under $100, are there any 2 channel options that would be powerful enough for those speakers?

AudioSource and Sonance amps are available on eBay for less than a hundred bucks. You're going to want something with at least 75 watts or so.

Sounds great, thanks so much for the help.

Sorry, one more question... would the AudioSource AMP100 be powerful enough or would I have to get the AMP200 instead?

Maybe I'm better off getting some bookshelf speakers with lower impedance than the Sony towers, getting a cheaper amp to power them and then adding a powered sub? Not sure which would be a better option.

If you really want bass you're going to want a subwoofer regardless, something with at least a 10" woofer and at least 150W of power. Bookshelf speakers are a good option though, you can get some pretty nice speakers for a little over $100. Just as an example:
