Based on the numerous veiled/great mids, soft/normal pads posts, and speculation about different QC based on production batches, I've written a small data gathering application where you can anonymously submit your serial number and presence/absence of said issues.
Once sufficient data is gathered, I will tabulate the results an post back here. The reason I decided to do this off head-fi is to remove the association between forum user names and serial numbers; this will be as anonymously as it gets.
The idea is to see if a pattern can be detected between issues and serial number proximity, and extrapolate on that to figure out any batching.
