Best IEM for $100-150

Hi! As you can see, I'm new to this website. I have looked up many reviews for in-ear monitors, and learned a lot of stuff. I am currently equipped with the Beats Tour earphones, which i am not very happy with. I like the bass, but not very much. I mostly listen to Rap, Hip-Hop music, along with some Pop songs. I want a set of earphones that are very fun to listen to, while being very comfortable. I know I'm being very picky, but I would also like it to be a smaller IEM, one that I can wear when I go to sleep. I have heard things about the Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10's, but those are a risk to take, because I don't know if they will fit my ear. I have looked into the VSonic GR07s, which are slightly out of my price range. However, if they truly are THE BEST earphones, I will most likely go for them. I have heard and tried the Shure SE215's. I don't LOVE the sound, but I like it. However, I don't seem to find the right fit with them.

Please help! Remember that I would like nice bass, but detailed mids and highs. I would like the low-end of the earphones to be very good, though. Comfort is also important to me, and so is the being able to sleep with them. But if there was one thing that I would be fine with missing, it would be sleeping with them in my ear. Thanks a lot!

Any earphones that are very close to this price range will do as well, like 160 dollar ones. As you can see, I live in the US, so that would be US dollars.

Welcome, and apologies in advance to your wallet, my friend. I highly recommend the FXT90, which meets all but one of the aforementioned requirements; they're slightly obtrusive when worn, and hence, they aren't too practical to sleep in. I'd also look at the Klipsch X10, as our friend Selenium has recommended. The X10 is among the tiniest in-ear I've owned, and practically disappear when worn. The GR07 is also well worth considering, and may be much more practical if you're wanting to wear them to sleep, as it really hugs the ear when worn, and doesn't protrude out as much as the FXT90. Refer to the links found in my signature for all the information you'd ever need, and don't forget to use the search function to find various in-depth reviews of each of the aforementioned. All the best! smile.gif

Thanks for the quick responses! I have been looking into the Klipsch Image X10. Is it easy to get the right seal with it? Also, how well does it work with rap music?

Is the FXT by JVC? I have heard good stuff about them but I haven't found a place where they are sold.

Getting the right seal with the X10 is as easy as easy gets, my friend. It depends only on the tips used, since the body of the earphones themselves is much smaller than most (all ?) tips. And yes, the Klipsch should work well with rap.

The FXT is indeed sold by JVC, and can be purchased here through an authorized dealer.

Seems like I'm either dealing with the Klipsch Image X10 and the JVC FXT. If the sleeping issue is completely ignored, which one is better? I want the one with the better sound quality. If you could, could you please rate the following categories for both earphones: Comfort, Isolation, and Lows, Mids, and Highs? After you are done, pick the one that you would choose in my position. I know I'm asking for a lot, but it would be very helpful! Thanks again!

Also, the Sennheiser IE8 is very good, according to many reviews that I have read. Are there any sellers on Head-Fi who are selling this for under 180 dollars?

The Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10s, as I mentioned before seem to have a VERY good sound. I haven't tried them but from every review I have seen, those seem to be very good if you can find them at a low price. Sorry for asking so many questions, but do they fit everyone's ear? Do they also go as far into the ear canal as the Klipsch Image X10s? I know that the Images are smaller. Also, out of the VSonic GR07, Klipsch Image X10, FXT90, and UE Triple.Fi 10, which one is the most comfortable? Please rank those 4 from most comfortable to least comfortable. Thanks!

For the genres you mentioned, the TF10 would suit you best, from my experience. However, it is the least comfortable, unless you do the flip-flop mod. I have had the TF10, and I currently own the GR07. The TF10s are great if you only want to listen to the genres you mentioned, and some electronic genres. If you ever get into genres with dominant vocals, the TF10 will not satisfy you. Here is my comfort chart:

GR07>>>TF10 flip-flopped > TF10.

I have the Tt Isurus, which has a similar shape to the FXT90, and it's quite comfy though not enough to completely disappear.

I wouldn't advise you to sleep with your IEMS. I think that's how I ruined my GR07 and made one of the drivers come loose after a few weeks ( I sleep on my sides/head cradled in my elbows or forearms). It'd be a shame to spend a ton of money on an earphone only to have it break on you. I was lucky to get free express international shipping to get it repaired. You might have to wait a month or more to get your earphones back if they break

How well do the VSonics suit the genres I mentioned?

Pretty well. The bass is deep and very well textured. However, if it's head shaking bass you're after, you won't get it from these

Haha, it isn't head-shaking bass I am after, but just quality bass that is good for rap music. How does the bass of it compare to the Shure SE215s?

Ha. I upgraded from the 215 to the GR07. The 215 has more bass, but the GR07 extends lower, and gives more sub bass. It's also more detailed and it's faster, being able to spit out complex bass lines without a hiccup

+1 Klipsch Image X10... quality bass, and plenty of it. Also the most comfortable IEM I've owned.
