Skullcandy aviators. Actually not that good?

Well I don't know..

Recently I've spent about an hour or so with the aviators, and while I only have one pair to compare them with (M50s), I don't see all the 'hype' about them.

They do mids better than the M50s (guitars mostly) but vocals seem a bit too far away, and not as powerful as the M50s. Also they're lacking the sparkle I love about the M50s. They're sound just seems too smooth and boring.

Are my ears just retarded? Or do I like the audio technica house sound too much? OR are the aviators not as good as hyped?

They're hyped. There's a reason why people here have a general displeasure towards brands like Bose, Skullcandy, and Beats. They're overpriced and overhyped.

Problem with that is that these are hyped by head fi :P. The rest of the skullcandy range, bose range and beats range and shatted on by head fi.

They arent really hyped by head-fi so much as surprising. The simple fact is, compared to the rest of their range, the aviators are actually quite good. I'd put them on par, with the m50's.

No one can deny that there is FotM on Head-Fi, recently it seems to be "let's be more accepting towards mass-market/hip brands." Consider the V-Moda headphones, I don't know what they sound like but there's certainly are forces behind the promotion of it's acceptance on Head-Fi.
