Looking for a portable amp to power AKG K702s

First post here.

I just got a new pair of K702s which so far have been wonderful. I also have AKG K240 Studio, Grado SR125 and Etymotic er6 (somewhere -- this will be the third pair of Etys I have lost, previously having lost two different sets of 4Ps.)  Unless and until I find the Etys (or decide to spring for new ones), the 702s will be my primary commuting headphones as well as my home listening ones.

Thus, I am looking for recommendations on a portable amplifier. I currently have a 6 year old Pocket Amp, which still works quite nicely, but I was wondering if there were any recommended portable amps in the under $200 range that would show me a noticeable improvement in sound quality and lower background hiss.

I use a Samsung Galaxy S2 as my portable source.  In addition, until I get a proper home headphone amp, I would also use for home listening through an Arcam 72 powered by a Denon 2801 receiver.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, even if the answer is stick with the Pocket Amp or possibly get a new Pocket Amp V2, that is fine as well.

Thanks in advance.

hey there

to be honest, I don't think this is really viable until u spend like 300+

since you will most likely need a portable DAC/Amp combo, I would suggest you look into ray samuel products.

I personally have the Fiio E10, and to be honest it can drive the k702 loud enough, but everything else is missing. Therefore you will really appreciate to step up for a better combo. I am currently plugging my k701 into the e10+matrix m-stage, and only things I can say is WOW!

good luck and hope this help.

bottom line: don't buy any fiio crap despite they are awesome for the price

You should check out the Objective2.  Its got plenty of power for the K702s

Its more along the line of "transportable" than "portable" but you're probably not walking around town with large open 'phone like the 702 so it should be fine to just throw in you bag or something.
