I might just get this since it seems it has enough power to power the DT880's. Any thoughts?

The E9 uses the same opamp as the Essence STX, but judging by published THD and SNR it's not as well implemented. The Essence STX has a better DAC than the E7. Only get that set if you like the idea of owning the portable E7, or if you're worried about interference in the computer (which has never been a problem for me).
