Hello everyone...

This is a great forum !..been spending hours reading posts after posts ...

i finally decided to go with the beyerdynamics DT 880 600 cans.

One thing im not sure of is if my current headphone amp is sufficient to drive these headphones.

I got the native instruments audio kontrol 1 soundcard..

here are the soundcard specs

HEADPHONE OUTPUTS

Load Impedance: 8 ... 600 Ohms
Maximum Output Level: 4.26 V rms,
100 mW @ 100 Ohms
SNR (A-weighted): 102.5 dB
THD+N (60 Ohms): 0.006%
Frequency Response: 20 - 20,000 Hz

thx  alot

peace!

If it can do 4 Vrms, then probably. You might be safer with the 250 ohm version, and probably save money too.

Do you know its output impedance?

thx.. i think its this ?

LINE OUTPUTS

Output Impedance: 100 Ohms unbalanced,
200 Ohms balanced
Maximum Output Level: +13 dBu
SNR (A-weighted) 103 dB
THD+N: 0.005%
Frequency Response: 20 - 20,000 Hz
(+0 / -0.5 dB)

Ouch, that explains the low power output at 100 ohms. Yeah, if all that's true it can do about 4.5 Vrms, but at 600 ohms you'll only see about 3.8 Vrms of it. That's good enough if you don't listen really loud to classical or other quiet stuff.

Ok just leaving some feedback for anyone in the same situation..

Got the DT880 600 ohm version and although they sound very nice to my ears.. I have a feeling that  Audio Kontrol 1 does not drive them very well. I have to turn the volume knob to nearly to max gain to actually get a good listening volume..

Maybe the 250 would have been better.. now i probably will have to get a amp at some point..

but great headphones!

That is not necessarily a problem if there is still low distortion and no clipping at whatever volume you use. But obviously you will not have much headroom for even higher volume.
