Quick question - Help setting up FiiO E9 with my sound card.

Hi,

Merry Christmas all. :)

Just trying to set up my FiiO E9.. noob questions:

I'm using it with an ASUS Xonar D2, so I'm using an RCA cable to try and connect the amp to the sound card, but it doesn't seem to be working.

I've got my headphones plugged into the 6.35mm jack, the red and white RCA cables into the back of the E9 and the other end of the RCA plugged into the sound card, but I get no sound output. Which socket do I put the RCA cable in on the sound card? (I've put it in the Line-In)

Am I right in thinking the USB cable is only needed if I have an E7?

Anything else I'm doing wrong? Thanks

Pictures of setup:

Headphones plugged into 6.35mm jack:

Power plugged into E9, RCA Line out L & R plugged into E9, USB plugged into E9 (not sure if needed but can't hurt I guess)

RCA plugged into Line In of sound card.

anyone? is it something I need to change on the drivers or something?

edit: hmm ok, I've just tried to use a 3.5mm male to male cable to connect the E9 to the soundcard "Front speaker" socket and it's working, is this how it's meant to be setup?

I know that the USB is only for when you are using the e7. You probably need to change your default output device in sound settings on your computer when you use that output.

You need to use the line in on the E9.  You are sending the signal to the amp, not away from it.  You just need to use a 3.5mm male to male.

EDIT:

I think you figured it out.

Yes, you should use the "front out" connector (green). The "line in" is incorrect, because it is an input of the sound card, and does not output any sound. Use the 1/8" jack to RCA cable to connect the front out of the sound card to the E9.

I worked it out now :p Makes sense now. Thanks all. I will use the RCA on the E9 to connect to some speakers if I ever get any.

that's the same amp I just got for my breyer dynamic dt880 headphones, which are on there way to me. did you get it all working ok ? how is the sound? what you wanted to do with you soundcard is the same setup I'm looking to do, so I was just curious.
