What are the similarities and differences between the AT house sound and the AKG's?

the k 701 doesn't have weak bass with my WA6SE... still neutral, but punchy enough. whats amazing is that the bass has so much control and is super tight. kinda like hd 800.

has enough bass for me though, especially if i raise the volume...

also, the grado rs1 have more mid bass than my pro 900s. its just such a powerful slam, love them for electronic music lol.

Price range! And I don't have a WA6SE...

Fiio man! I won't have it has no bass to be honest, its just not enough for my liking. I understand how it is tight and controlled but I guess you know what I mean.  Maybe I will purchase one when I have a strong amp. Do want to try some cheaper akg's especially the vintage ones (been eyeing on german ebay for a k500)

How would people think about adding a SA5000 to the mix?

Try Beyerdynamic DT250-250Ohm. Its the Beyer to try, believe me.

Oh? Not the DT1350? In fact I'm really confused what the Beyer house sound is after acquiring the 1350...

Any experience in this?

Hi,

I know your post with the K500 is about 4 month old now:

I switched back from the AKG K500 to Sennheiser HD540 because the K500's lack of bass.

I was feeling the Senn. are more fun listening to: but as the K701 the K500 was very analytic with a good soundstage already. -I think it would be a nice toy when bought cheap.

Hmm... in what ways does the K500 differ from the K701 from your ears?

I wanted the K500 because I want an AKG and its cheaper than the K701 and it looks so good... And then I heard about its mid-range, its detail and soundstage

But I didn't really liked the K701. Too cold for me.

First of all, it is very debatable whether there is such a thing as a 'house sound'... While a company like Grado indeed seems to go for a very similar sound with most of their models, this is not true when it comes to Beyerdynamic, which has many very different-sounding headphones on offer. The DT48 sounds completely different than any other headphone out there, for example... With this said, a fair amount of headphones from Beyerdynamic seem to share a somewhat similar approach to high frequencies (ie. they are airy, slightly emphasized, very sharp and highly defined) but I am not sure if this can be called a house sound. As for my recommendation to try the DT250... The DT1350 is a fine portable can, probably amongst the best. The DT250 is a hardcore tool for audio professionals and offers one of the flattest, most neutral sound signatures around. Nothing is emphasized on the DT250 and this makes for a uniquely transparent, natural listening experience. Due to this, it is worth trying, I think.

If you like the HD580, I'm skeptical of you liking the (now discontinued) SA5000. Then again, I get on fine with both of them. If you think the HD580 is flat in the mids/highs though, the SA5000 will probably be too much.

I'd also consider an Ultrasone at some point.

Thanks for the inputs :)

I found a guy in my uni who owns a pair of SA3000 so I'm going to try them before anything. The DT250 seems to be a very very classic headphone and I'll do some research on them. With ultrasones, I actually owned a pair of DJ1 before I upgraded to the Denon. I really want to know how a more hi-end ultrasone would sound like however!

Besides the obvious PRO900 and 2900, what are other suggestions?

The PRO900 is painful to listen to due to its piercing highs and upper-mids. Not recommended TBH.

haven't looked at the "spoiler" in the OP, but going by the thread title alone:

STAX SR-009 and/or the

STAX SR-007 OMEGA II MK2 and/or the

STAX SR-507 LAMBDA

I think anyone who really enjoys headphones owes it to themselves to

have the experience of listening to Stax electrostatics.

Thats their out of the box sound. With burn-in, thats a different story.

Or you can try the kees mod.

But I'm interested in the 2200 or the 2400... There must be other ultrasones with warmer presence right? The complaint I had with the DJ1s are its metallic sound, and I'm not sure would the PRO(2)900 improves on it.
