Headphones for a Hip Hop Head and Alternative RnB Listener...

Thread Starter

This Question has been posted time and time again... I have read plenty of threads on this topic, but I have only seen suggestions posted, and no true product reviews. I have turned to you tube for reviews, but there is nothing like hearing a headphone for yourself.

About me... I am an audiophile, but I have worked with Car Audio. If you know anything about car audio, you will know that Image Dynamics is a brand known for Sound Quality. I have 2 12" ID CTX 4ohm subwoofers being pushed by a 2000 watt US amp [MD2]. I have 4 6x8 2 way Morel 57c's on a 4 channel US AMP MD42 amp. I have 4 morel tweeters being played through a Macintosh receiver.... I mention this to say that even though hip hop music usually uses a basic 808 in most songs, I do have a keen ear for great mids and highs. I listen to Alternative RnB Artist like Lykke Li. The Weeknd, Lana Del Ray, Florence & The Machine etc. as well.

NOW... I have heard beats by dre Pro's & Studio's, Sony XB700... Low End Quality stuff... I am looking for a headphone in the $200-$350 price range that will deliver POWERFUL & DEEP BASS without sacrificing my Mids & Highs... I do not plan to use an amp, but if they do in fact increase sound quality, I may consider. I have heard about M50s, D2000s, and HFI 580 [Which I really like the look of] but I want to know which one of these or any other headphones that can deliver powerful crisp bass with great mids & highs without distortion at high volumes.  I NEED SOMETHING DURABLE. I really like the cord for the Denon DH2000. I really like the Cord for the HiFiMAN headsets, because I will be using these headphones on the go between class, on roadtrips, and around the house.

Please help me to make a decision on a great headset.

Thank you.

D2000 could be a contender but their durability could be called into question if you needed to haul them about

the place. Beyer DT770 80ohm is a great choice, probably one of the most popular basshead cans, you will

need a small portable Fiio E11 amplifier to get the best out of them on the go.
