Right driver broke in my Ultrasone HFI-780 replacement phones? replacement driver?

All of a sudden the right driver isnt producing any sound whatsoever.

I wonder what to do?

Is it common for the driver to burn out (although I havent played very high) or is it more plausable that the cable has been broken somehow indide the can?

I could just take them apart to find out, but maybe this is a common problem.

If its the driver - where can I get a new driver?

If its a lost cause, what other headphones compare to them, I use them for gaming and love the "3d", the punch and they also have to be closed and not be more powerhungry then theese.

(I have offcourse tested the phones in anothoer amp and also tried other phones in the original amp and its the phones that are broke.)

Maybe ask directly to ultrasone.

Most of time its a problem with detached cable.

Thanks.

I never knew you could get spareparts directly from the maker. Cool. I will open and check the cable.

Both cables are attatched correct inside, but as there is only 1 cable coming to the left side its a little hard to trace the other cable around inside the headset. Could be a break along the way.

I´m gonna have to make a switch soldering the good one to bads side and vice verca to see if its indeed the cable. I think thats the fastest way to see what is going on.

But what other headphones compare to theese and are closed?

The right driver worked in the left housing - cable break.

I traced the cable all around...

The cable was broken in the joint of the right phone, probably because it has been twisted a full turn (or even more eek.gif)

I soldered it back together and it became a little problem to get the cable to track inside the headstrap with the hard solderjoint and it broke once so I had to redo it rolleyes.gif once but I was more careful next time.

Now they wooooooork!!!!

Good Job and bad point for Ultrasone.

Yeah but in their defense, it is my GF who uses them for gaming and she isnt really careful with stuff. And the HFI-780´s are a little wierd since the earpiece can be turned around and upside down - it can get confusing as to what is the right way to turn.

But yeah it is their design and if it can lead to breaks then that is bad, im just saying my GF is special biggrin.gif

Here is the break:

Luckily there was some slack inside the earpiece so I could get some more cable over the balljoint and be able to solder them together and get the entire repair-joint over the balljoint.

Plan B would have been to recable the entire left cable.
Plan C would have been to recable both sides with a fat cable and put some ncie velvet inside the cans biggrin.gif
