Are you sure the Violectric V200 will be powerful enough?
It only puts out 2.7W into 50ohm... That doesn't sound anywhere near powerful enough!!
(I'm using the power output into 50ohm as a reference because the HE-6 is 50ohm).
Has anyone actually heard an HE-6 with the V200 and been able to push the volume hard without clipping?
Would a weaker amp like the V200 struggle so much with the HE-6 that it would cause clipping and burn out the voice coil of the HE-6? I wouldn't want a weak amp to break my new headphones!!
I found a cheap(ish) DAC/amp combo ($499) called the Audio-GD NFB-10SE that puts out 5.9W into 50ohm However, this is in BALANCED operation, which might make it different..?
The NFB-10SE performs closer to the figures that the new EF6 (by Head Direct themselves) put up. The EF6 puts 5W into 50ohm. I figured that this means 5W into 50ohm must be the minimum power that the HE-6 require, given that Head Direct also manufactures the HE-6 and designed the EF6 to drive it.
Again, I'm not sure if the 5.9W into 50ohm counts as it refers to the amp in balanced operation whereas the EF6 puts 5W into 50ohm single-ended. Balanced amps always seem to have higher power-outages, so maybe the figures need to be down-graded when comparing balanced amps with single-ended amps?
