Doesn't seem to be the case for Head Fi.

Hey guys,

I was looking to get a set of these for indoors listening (already have a pair of portable ATH-ESW9s).

I was just wondering if my FiiO E07K portable amp/dac would be enough to drive these relatively well.

I have just enough money for these and would really like to avoid having to get an amp just because of these.

Penny for your thoughts?

The E07k is a fairly weak amp. However, the HE400 sounds good off practically anything. I doubt youd hate them off it.

Alright, thanks.

I'm just getting started on this world of hi-fi, so trying to wade in slowly... lol

You guys weren't kidding when you said "sorry about your wallet" >.>

they sound really good off my E17, and even straight off the ipod they are listenable (if not great).  off the ipad, which has a bit better amp, they sound reasonable.  i actually prefer the sound from my E17 to my onkyo receiver, but i prefer my very old school sony receiver to the E17...

the biggest difference the amp makes IMO (other than volume of course) is adding bass and opening the soundstage.  i can't wait for my desktop to be finished cause i think it will sound awesome, but in the meantime a small amp is by no means a problem and you will love these cans i'm sure!

Just put in my order (thank you, Christmas money + bonus check). Can't wait for em to arrive!

Also, I ordered the velour pads... just because I like the feel over leather pads. Will this affect the sound quality? If so, for the better or for the worse?

For better! Velour is probably the best value upgrade you can get for the HE-400s sonically!

Please though, post in this thread http://www.head-fi.org/t/604583/hifiman-he-400-impressions-and-discussion-thread
