Recommendations Please.

Hi to all at Headfi.

I'm a long time lurker but avid reader and this is my first post.

I'm hoping to get some recommendations off you guys in regard to finding some headphones that meets my needs.

I like to sit down at night with my family, and this is where my problem starts lol.

The wife and kids like to watch the TV and I prefer to get lost in my music.

We seem to subconsciously fight an audio war with my open headphones (Goldringer DR150) leaking sound out and they upping the TV volume to compensate, then me turning the volume up on my headphones to counteract. rolleyes.gif

I have £150 as my budget.

I'm looking for closed circumaural headphones that seal well in both directions but more importantly stops sound escaping.

I listen to all manner of music across the range but not so much classical, maybe the odd bit here and there.

I'm not a basehead but do like it to be there in a controlled way and I like to hear clarity in vocals.

I'm not as clued up as you guys and gals in the technical jargon so forgive me there.

Hoping to get something good in the sales just after Xmas. wink_face.gif

Regards Rob.

Edit: Forgot to add I'd prefer something that can be driven easy as I've no amp.

No amp, good isolation...take a look at the Sennheiser HD25-1 II.  They seem to be considerably more expensive at Amazon UK than what we see in the US however, as we can get them for $170.

Just saw your requirement for circumaural, which these don't fulfill.

Hmm, maybe the Audio Technica ATH-M50 instead.

Thanks for your input Kerry.

After doing a bit of research it's 50/50 between the Audio Technica ATH-M50 or the KRK KNS 8400.

Dam it can't make my mind up lol confused_face.gif

If isolation was the key factor, the KRK KNS 8400 has about -15 dBr of isolation, whereas the M50 has -9 dB of isolation. I'd go with the KRKs in that case.

Thanks for your input too SanjiWatsuki

Both headphones are good for my requirements and it was a tough call.

The dBr of isolation tipped it for me.

The KRK KNS 8400 it is then. smily_headphones1.gif

The KRK KNS 8400s are sick and probably one of the best sleeper headphones out there. I'm totally new to nice headphones, but ever since I decided on nice phones for Christmas I've been doing a ton of research. After going to Guitar Center and trying a number of closed circumaurals, I settled on the 8400s. They really are great, especially for the price. Really comfortable, sound great, good all around. Enjoy them :)

Too bad you didn't read the thread you started and my reply that told you to go to DXC Store in Culver City.  You do go to UCLA right?

DXC Store sadly closed! I was very sad because I wanted to go there this Winter break.

What...DXC Store closed?!  I just thought their site was down...  Well this is quite a shame since it was probably the best store in SoCal.
