Semi-open headphones like denon 2000?

I owned the Denon 2000's for a while and loved them. The cable I absolutely hated and didn't want to replace the cable due to voiding warranty.   I'm looking to get back into wearing headphones again and looking for a semi-open pair that has a similar sound. From what I read I like the Akg 240 mkii but i don't know if it will have the same type of sound. Any ideas ?

K242HD doesn't sound the same, D2000 has an overall better SQ and you must have an amp for fully enjoy K242HD where D2000 is a very efficient headphone. D2000 costs three times the price of K242HD.

Aren't the 240 mkii different then the 242?

Normally there must be some differences, like less bass for K240, a more flat frequency band, normal for the pro version, but not big differences.

The Denons are not Semi-open, they're vented "semi-closed". The AKG K242HD should be essentially the same as the K240 mk2, Just as the Q701/K701/K702 are essentially the same headphone. Maybe the consumer versions have some boost in the mid-bass to sound more 'bouncy' but it should be minimal. FWIR the K240mk2 had pretty well rounded sound, Good bass extention, perhaps not as low as the D2000 but it should be better controlled. It should be overall dryer snd more even soinding than the denons, If you really apreciated the happy (U curve freq band) Denon signature you may find them too neutral. I'd check the Ultrsone HF2400, as it's supposed to be mellower in the treble than the Pro-line's but still in the 'happy' camp. The new AT A900X may also be an option but It's more of proper closed cans i think.

I haven't heard many semi-open headphones, but I found the Samson SR850 to be surprisingly similar to the D2000 in many regards. They don't have as much bass or extension, and the mids and treble are presented in a more aggressive fashion, but I found them more similar than difference.

This is why I said I wanted semi-open, I like feeling the bass when its there but not fatiguing. I like being able to hear things around me and not having my ears sweat. I've tried numerous open headphones and they all seem to lack punch. Any ideas?

Look at the open-back mods for Denons. You can get the cups this way so that it's reversible. There's a few in the for sale section even right now.

Keep the Denon. Make it open-air instead.

Very best,

Yeah, if you don't mind modding headphones, you can check out the open-backed D2000 mod in my sig. There hasn't been much of an update in a while because my headphones are out, but read through it if you're interested.

Well denon 2000's I loved in every way except the cable. It would constantly curl up and get to the point where I could feel it constantly pressing against the neck. Since I didn't want to mod/replace the cable I sold them. Now I'm looking for a pair of headphones that has punch but isn't closed. I don't consider Denon 2000's closed as they leaked like a champ, I could hear everything around me and my ears never sweat while wearing them.
