UPGRADE: £1200 budget, advice needed

So about a year ago I got the Fischer audio fa-003w and fell in love with them. A few weeks later I had the urge to move up the ladder. However I realised that it would be more expensive to go through incremental upgrades than just moving all the way up the

ladder. Now that being said my music taste does vary. But the main ones have to be EDM and classic rock. Now I do believe that the fa-003w have a relative neutral sound if not natural so I would like something with the same sound signature. Definitely would like a headphone that does not add a lot of emphasis on any range, though I wouldn't like something that sounds so analytical that it is joyless. Please send your headphone recommendations!

Few other questions: if I go the in-ear route what would I be missing from full size cans?

If I decide to get custom in ears what is roughly the price of getting ear molds in the UK?

Are customs that much better than universals?

Thanks!

Any top tier headphones that have a similar sound signature to the fa-003w?

What about the other questions?

£1.2k is not a tiny amount of money to buy blindly just by advices and review, it might get you what you wanted but also can disappoint greatly. Either buy used to test gears out, or try to find somewhere to audition gears you are interested in.

For neutral presentation, maybe go with a Beyer DT880 and a good tube amp. Besides that... stay away from IEMs for home use. $1000 IEM set up < $1000 headphone set up any day (Okay, in MOST cases).

Why is that though? Even customs?

From personal experience with my SE535 (never heard customs) on a really high end set up (Lisa III + some DAC I can't remember the name of), I've never found portable setups to be amazing. That, and the fact that a great chunk of what you pay when it comes to IEMs is micro-enginneering. There's a great post on the portable headphone forums about someone quitting it because it's too silly. You should check it out. Its an interesting and will give you an idea of why I suggested not to go the IEM route. I can't find it as of now but it's a famous post and resurfaces once in a while.

I will post this on the portable forum see if anyone can find it. I don't need portables but I would have thought that they would be on par with full sized cans, especially customs. Really thinking on getting the HE-6 however it is quite a put off having to a powerful amp for it plus a dac. Currently wondering if the M-Dac would suffice. Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated.
