Thanks. For anybody with the HFI-580 or the DT-770, how do they work for just walking around? Do they come with a carrying case?

Neiher for carrying case (HFi580 has a bag), but for walking around, HFi580 without hesitation, DT770 is larger and move on your head, but its more comfortable. You can't have both quality, lol.

The Beyerdynamic DT are not what comes to mind when one thinks of portablity, lots of smaller headphones out there.

But they are a rugged headphones.

Denon AH-D1100.

Price is down to $107 at Electronics Expo, need to use the coupon code.

There are a closed bassy headphone.

This is a really low price for this model headphone.

I like the look of the AH-D1100. So, in terms of portability and comfort, how to the D1100, HFI 580, and SRH840 stack up?

I don't have firsthand experience, but I've done a ton of research on the AH-D1100 and the HFI 580 and I'll comment on those. I came close to buying either the HFI 580s or 780s, but I read a lot that they aren't very comfortable (find the review in here, it confirms that: http://www.head-fi.org/t/567149/my-200-and-under-bassheads-buyers-guide). The Ultrasones are also pretty big and bulky (285 g), compared to about 180 g for the AH-D1100.

Speaking only in terms of portability and comfort, the AH-D1100 are definitely better than the HFI 580. Similar research should tell you where the SRH840 fit in the picture.

HFi580 or 780 aren't big and bulky for over ears headphone. There are relatively small for this type of headphone, but yes, they aren't light, 'cause of the headband. D1100 are very small for over ears headphone and the build quality is bad imo. Big over ear headphone = ATH-A /AD series..., Beyer DT, T1..., senn HD, ultrasonne pro...AKG K/Q series...

Like I said, they're definitely big and bulky compared to the D1100s. If you're strictly comparing the Ultrasones and the D1100s, the Ultrasones are definitely bigger and bulkier.

And yes, in absolute terms, there are many closed circumaurals that are a good deal bulkier than the HFI 580/780.
