I listen to Bassnectar and hear no flabby bass with my D5000s through a Schiit Asgard.  However, I have heard flabby bass when attempting to listen to similar music without amplification or minimal amping, such as through the headphone jack on my iPod or Sansa Fuze, and even with my TotalAirhead amp.   I understand that amplification should not improve the sound quality of these headphones, but I notice a significant improvement when these are amped, at least with regards to volume headroom.

Ah!  Nevertheless, I will not be attempting this tonight, but I may go for it this extended holiday weekend.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do :). I still found the bass to be a bit much at times even though when properly amped stock (at least I think the Fiio E9 amp/UHA4 should be enough to power them). Pretty much once the drivers had room to breathe (they were stifled in those wood cups) they truly came to life. With the ear pads not locked in place and just resting on the frame it really, really tightens up the bass. You have a lot of punch still but its very clean and you can really pay attention to how deep the bass goes and have all the detail from the treble and the mids flowing and not overcrowding. I'm also one to have a hard time trying different things lol (I was locked in the IE8s are the best mode for a long time) until I got my hands on the FX700s.
