The EDM dilemma

Christmas is just around the corner and I bought myself a nice Traktor S4 to upgrade over my old Mixtrack Pro (I'm an aspiring DJ).

As you may have guessed, I'm an avid EDM listener. I mainly listen to Progressive House, Trance, Minimal and some dubstep. I currently own some Klipsch S4s and I've enjoyed them allot, but I want to upgrade. Although I somewhat like the warm sound of the S4s, I want something more analytical. I dislike the harshness of the highs on the S4s and I also wish the bass was faster and more controlled.

Anyways, I was looking to get some HD25s to DJ with and listen to them from my Cowon J3, but I decided I wanted some full size cans that I could really enjoy at home and on the go. What I’m looking for is cans I can DJ with and take around (easy to drive and have to be closed) and that I could also use at home from some sort of DAC/AMP. I have a budget of around $400 but I could potentially go higher. So this is what I want.

  • Strong punchy bass, but controlled.
  • Mid-Bass for EDM (basslines,)
  • Good isolation
  • More on the warm side but can still stay analytical
  • Easy to drive
  • Around $400
  • Potentially may want a DAC/AMP for home rig.

Thanks for your time and happy holidays from Canada!!!

Would those require an amp to run properly? It seems these headphones are often suggested for EDM...

What about the Denon D2000?

No amp needed.

D2000 is a much better all rounder, but for EDM/hiphop I prefer Pro900 (more fast). Some people prefer D2000...
