1. The Fiio E9 has a 10 ohm output impedance whereas the E11 has a very low 0.5 output impedance. Now, the DT 770-80s aren't too crazy about high impedance, particularly 10ohm, as that's the 'limit' for the cans, IIRC. The lower the better for the cans, I guess.

2. The Fiio E9 has no Bass Boost or EQ functions as opposed to the E11 which has 3 Bass levels, IIRC. I like this feature.

3. The Fiio E9 is more expensive.

In light of this, I would lean towards the E11.

However, there's a catch: E11 is suited for portability and can't be conveniently used for desktop/permanent application without having to charge it separately, since natively it can't be used and powered at the same time (via the USB computer port because of different voltage grounds from PC USB port and Fiio amp circuitry). i.e., the location of my headphones, cables, and the designated area for the amp is inconveniently away from the computer and closer to the electrical outlet(s).

Fortunately, there is a way to supply external power to E11 while it's in use: via a USB wall charger (within 1000ma and 5.0-5.5V output power). Apparently, I am currently powering my Fiio E5 thru one of these chargers.*

Therefore, I've decided to get the E11.

*Dang it. I couldn't get the amp to simultaneously play and charge so I gonna place it right next to where I put away the cans overnight and plug the USB charge cable into it when I retire, then when I reach for the cans the next day I'll unplug it. Done. Next..

I was reading up on a thread here about headphone amp and sound card volume adjustment: if i use the soundcard's eq presets that came witht he xonar dx audio center how much volume should the computer volume be and how much volume should I set the volume knob/dial on the amp?

edit: thansk guys for te e11 recommendation it's awesome and a def improvement over the e5.. its cleaner richer and fuller and the bass is more pronounced punchy and defined. my ideal settings for it is high power low gain EQ 2. so far the sound card's volume is at 80 and e11 volume at 3. i will try to use vu meter plugin and find the sound cards's sweet spot and leave it that and adjust volume on e11

The ODA is not available yet, it is expected to be released before the end of the summer. Currently, only the original "portable" version of the O2 can be ordered, and the ODAC, which can be built into the O2, at the expense of losing the portability.

do you think it's good for desktop use of dt770 pro-80s?

what's the oda and odac? what's the diff? i don't need the a dac tbh. i just need a desktop version of o2. and having read the oda article, the oda is the desktop versino of o2 with upgraded parts. what else do these parts improve from the original o2, other than fnctionality with the odac?

O2 amp is the dedicated headphone amplifier. ODAC is the DAC. ODA is the unreleased, WIP combination amp and DAC.

Is the O2 a desktop amp or a portable amp?

What is WIP?

O2 is portable in the transportable sense. It's technically portable, but it's used more as a desktop amp because it is too large to be a typical portable amp.

WIP stands for work-in-progress.

The O2 is is a portable amp, quite a nice one at that. Possibly one of the best portables out there. Very powerful and measures excellently. Well worth the mullah.

WIP is an abbreviation for Work In Progress.

I read a couple of articles on this. Is it true that the ODA has upgraded parts and can be used as a desktop amp with the new improvements without the need to purchase the DAC that comes with it?

The O2 can be used as a desktop amplifier, and also as a portable one, although it is larger than a typical portable product. The DAC is optional, if it is built into the O2, the portability is lost, since it takes up the place of the batteries. The ODA is not expected to be significantly different from the O2 in terms of audio performance, but the usability as a desktop amplifier will be improved; the O2 has 1/8" jack input and output, and all connectors are at the front. The ODA may also offer more gain settings. Here is what two popular pre-built O2 versions look like:

I like the improvements in the ODA but I don't need the built-in DAC if that's possible. I already have a DAC source and would like to save money if there is a pre-built ODA minus the DAC option.

With these differences in mind, could it be possible there will be a ODA without the built-in DAC?

The ODA without DAC is the O2.

No it isn't. The ODA is going to be physically bigger with upgraded aspects.

If I wanted to purchase a customized ODA, should I ask the builder to set the gain range from 1X to 6X for my Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro-80?
