FAQ About E17 - Page 8

post #106 of 163

Was just reading a post from another site that says E17 will work with Archos G9 as DAC.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1539576&page=1

Are there any other Tablets that are known to work the the E17 DAC.  The Archos Tablets don't seem to have good reviews.

Thanks, we noticed that. but Andes/E07K, ALPEN/E17 is not very suitable for Android phone because the battery life and the feature. The E18 will comes with USB HID which means you can control the play/stop, previous/next song

on E18 without active your phone , also E18 comes with a 3500mAh battery and change charge your phone if the power is run off on your phone.

Very excited for the E18 if this is the case. Any more info about it for us?

I just bought an E17 and was really enjoying it through my laptop USB.  It indicated that it was in charge mode and fully charged.  I unplugged and found out that it wasn't holding any charge.  I've tried a wall outlet too.  When I have it plugged in and turned off, with charging turned on, the on/off button blinks red.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I connected my Toshiba Thrive Tablet to my Fiio E17 (full USB port / no OTG cable) and the USB Audio Recorder Free Player. The app channels the audio through the USB port. The audio quality - source FLAC 24 bit 96 Khz - was rather poorly with cracks & beeps. Probably due to the Beats mod / different audio mods on the CM10 roms

The CM10 mod for the Thrive is actually very good. The Toshiba Tablet is powerfull enough to drive the Beyerdynamic T-70. Beats mod and Poweramp give a lot of musical satisfaction. Thanks to all the devs who made this possible

I can confirm thas USB audio is enabled on all CM10 roms for the Toshiba Thrive 10" and there is a 'workaround' to connect a portable DAC/AMP to the device. Support should yet come from the google music app / Poweramp / Jetaudio and the like !

The route is open ... Maybe at last Toshiba should make 'some' effort in supporting there products. The hardware is top notch ... software developement is non existent and support not worthy for a Japanese Label.mad.gif

Can you describe what you mean by battery life? Does the E17 siphon power from the phone itself? I am interested to try this, but I want to get more info before I buy a USB OTG cable with power.

Guys, is there any way to connect the e17 to the new ipod touch lightning connector? Any cables that anyone knows about?

Thanks

I'm a little confused about the name. Is E17 the same as E17 Alpen? Do they both work with the E9 (the E9 that is compatible with the E7)? I sent a query to FiiO but got some strange troubleshooting directions.

If I may make two suggestions to FiiO: 1) Products need more distinctive names, particularly between generations. Adding Os and Ks is kind of confusing. Why not just add a 'point,' like E17.2?  2) Support needs to be able to answer questions. I sent a query about which product to buy and received troubleshooting directions. I like your products, so this doesn't really put me off, but it doesn't really reflect well on your company.

Yes they are the same.

FiiO E17 Alpen.

They both work with E9 and E90K

Fiio likes to use names

Kilimanjaro=E11
Olympus=E10
Andes=E07K
Mckinley=E6
Rocky=e02i

Etc

However in some cases. Such as the E10 at this moment. Having the full name means the current reviision. The name olympus was added after E10 revision 3(i believe). Buying a olympus from an authorized dealer or anyone should mean it is current revision . But of course anyone is free to add or not add it when selling it.

I personally have seen people calling only revision 3 E10 the olympus.

That is currently the only model i am aware of that has this fan based distinction.

Not official name distinction of course.

Silkscreenings of name or model also have shown differences. First two batches of E17 alpen ever produced have "E17" written on back while all batches after that ever have "Alpen" on the back.

I seriously don't even keep up with their procedures and i am still amazed at what i can spit out.

Having a point something imo is way more confusing than the 0 and ks.

Then it looks like firmware changes or just a batch of untidy numbers.

FiiO has sold over a million products last i heard. Most audiophile enthusiast companies dont even get past tens of thousand.

They need to provide support worldwide.

They do misinterpret what people are asking help for sometimes but I can see that they are trying.

James provides a bit of support on HF(over a thousand posts here already) and some bit on FB. Whilst his support staff of only a few people(3-4 last i asked last year) does all the queries.

I believe their policy is two business days(?) for a return reply.

Thanks, bowei006. Very helpful. They were prompt, not complaining there.

I see your point about the point something style of naming. The gist of my suggestion is that I think it's confusing to have names so similar to previous generations for products that could have interoperability issues. This may be less of a problem if the website had tech specs and manuals for the previous generation. Anyway, just a suggestion from a user and fan of their products.

Edited: posted a question in the wrong thread.

I believe their website does still carry tech specs and manuals for the prev generation.

Their standard tech reporting has somewhat changed. Back when they started, it was basic info, but now we get more advanced info.

Not sure James is reading this thread, but I guess you could comment on Facebook or drop a note to their support staff or James himself if you want to be heard.

No. It has its own battery. You can turn off USB charging from the E17 itself if I remember correctly.
