Looking for headphones that beat "beats"

I am not a audiophile but my friends have been getting pretty hyped about beats by dre headphones i personally think beats are not that great and would like to buy some headphones that look ok and completely blow beats out of the water Also they must be under 300 dollars which is what beats by dre studios cost

It would help to know what you are going to play them with.  Are you looking for something for use at home, or headphones that are also portable?  Do you need isolation from outside sounds, or can you use open headphones?

 

Type of music you listen to would also help, and your preferences on sound signature, whether its bass heavy, neutral, or emphasis on mids and treble...

there are many, but it depends on what kind of music you listen to?

what are plugging the headphones into? (ipod, laptop, etc.)

 

open which mean zero isolation or closed?

portable or heavy for home use?

I would like a bass heavy headphone also i would like it to be closed but not a huge problem i listen to mostly rap hip hop dub step and rock. A  Ipod and computer would be what i plug into. they would have to be portable and well built

Though I haven't thoroughly auditioned one myself and can't recommend them from personal experience, the AiAiAi TMA-1 is a very highly-recommended bass-heavy headphone around here. It also has its own unique style.

Have you considered the V-Moda Crossfade M80/V80? They're well-built, stylish, portable, and bass-heavy.

yes i have considered those my only problem is they are on ear however if they truly are comfortable that seems to be a good option. Does any one have anything to say about the crossfade lp2s

Not many around these parts have tried the LP2, but there's a great number of reviews on the M80. V-MODA generally makes very nicely-built, good-looking, and nice-sounding products, and while I cannot attest that the LP2 is a great can, it seems it should be so.

Nothing can beat the Beats Studio by Dr.Dre! ksc75smile.gif They are lite, they have noise cancelling, they are stylish. They've got cool factor in them. You may buy better sounding cans for the same money but they don't have practical qualities and physical coolness of Beats.

Fiio E11 is a portable headphone amplifier with good reviews, also get one of Fiio's "L" cables, plugs into Apple's LOD port for improved sound.

 

If you do not want to use a headphone amplifier, get the Denon AH-D2000 headphones.
