Greetings. It's looking like I'm getting a pair of Sennheiser HD650's for christmas, and I really can't wait. As far as I've gathered, it benefits tremendously from an amp, and thus here I am. I don't know too much about amps, apart from what little I've read here and on the wiki (an article about voltages and ohm specifically). The source is going to be my desktop computer with a Xonar DX soundcard, mainly playing lossless .FLACS and 320kbits mp3's. I might invest in a DAC later on, but that's a bit further down the road.
I've been using the search function quite extensively, but there seems to be as many suggestions as there are HD650 threads. Some of the threads are quite old as well, so I made this in case of recent great releases. Is there any sort of consensus on amps that compliment the 650's well these days? I'm not sure if I'm comfortable paying much more than $300-350 for an amp, so there's the budget. I know I didn't place this in the portable headamp forum, but I'm perfectly open to portable alternatives.
Any well-grounded suggestions of decent amps in this price range would be greatly appreciated.
PS: I assume features that my soundcard has will still be usable after connecting an amp? It has several nifty equalizer and sound normalization functions that I enjoy playing around with from time to time, and I guess the amp just amplifies the signals whatever they are?
Thank you, and I wish you all a merry christmas.
