Competition of the Worst Sounding Headphone for its price---> BOSE *cough* MONSTER Beat *cough*

As I am aware of their reputation in the headfi community. I never had my hands on any of them. I have only had a brief audition with them.

I think the biggest problem is that they are trying to make the bass boomy instead of punchy and smooth.

I can't remember how they sound compare to one another. Throw me some ideas how they would compare to one and another.

If you got more nominations, feel free to put them in.

Which Bose has boomy or bloated bass? It sure isn't the Triport AE1 or AE2. If anything, the AE1 has more treble than bass! Compared to most other headphones they're actually fairly well balanced.

I believe the OE is the one with the bloated bass. The AE1 is actually quite good, but not worth $150.

yea the bose around ears aren't too bad, i remember the AE1s being quite good and my friend owns the AE2 and i think it's worth at least $50

Not sure why a "which is worse" thread is needed for Bose and Monster especially if they haven't been heard by the OP.

I am not a fan of the Beats but thats because I don't want a headphone like them. As for Bose I own and use the IE2 for situations where I need to be aware of my surroundings. They are not worth their full asking price when it comes to sound quality versus other similarly price earphones but for many the combination of comfort and open air design is worth the price of admission.

In fact I have sold several high priced "audiofile" earphones that I did not feel were worth the price of admission while I still have the IE2 and before them the original IE which were the original earphones that started me into buying higher end gear for portable use. So why not have a "which is worse" thread for all manufacturers versus just picking the low hanging fruit of Bose and Monster.

I'd buy BOSE, but not Beats...

I don't think BOSE phones sound bad at all, they actually sound pretty good, but maybe overpriced?

I drive a Mazda CX-9 SUV with standard sound system is 800w, 12-speakers BOSE system, I absolutely LOVED it, compared to my friend custom system, my BOSE is nice and balanced, with it's single 8" sub providing the sub bass beauty from the back of the car...

...but Beats? extremely overpriced, Beats tour IEM sells in Australia for MSRP of $199, I think IMHO it is only worth around $50, heck even CX-300II sounds much, much better than Beats tour

I don't see the point of this thread... there has already got to be a million beats/bose bashing threads out there, we get it.

Anything sold retail in Australia was not worth the price.

699AUD (750 USD) for a pair of Beats Pro is INSANE!!

And the Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10 for 500 dollars. (still listed as about this price)

Beats and Soul tied for first place I bet.

What is the point of this? I get that you're trying to determine which headphone is "the worst sounding for its price," but...why? Who cares?

I have heard from famous audiophilic reviewers like Inner Fidelity, that the Souls are actually some what decent.

The SL150 supposedly sounds better then the Studio's according to him. The 150's are $200 dollars, and the Studio's are $300.

He actually crowned the 150 one of the "winners" of his Celebrity headphone deathmatch. The other winners were the V Moda M80 , the House of Marley Exodus, and very surprisingly, the Skullcandy Mix Master Mike.

The point to start this thread is that I see so many people are still asking whether Beats is that bad and so forth, including bunch of my friends. Some of them want it because of the looks, some of them are there because of the celebrity endorsement, and some just think the "cool" people should have one. I succesfully convinced one of my friends to buy M80 instead of Beats. (Saved a soul smile.gif)

I know the AE and noise canceling Bose doesnt sound too bad but it is just overpriced. To me, the price should at least stand for quality, with the same money you can actually purchase better headphones.

I read some of tyll's review, and Soul looked quite promising which surpised me for a bit.

What about Fanny Wang comparing to Bose AE, SQ wise?...

Skullcandy is definitely turning towards the audiophile market with the Aviators and mix masters.

It really kind of pisses me off that new headfiers are just randomly bashing headphones they haven't even heard, its stupid, seriously, from my personal experience SOUL isn't that bad at all, the only mistake they made is having some famous guy involved. Okay, rant over.

I agree. It seems to be a bit of a bandwagon effect with no real point at all in the bashing. Now if this were intended primarily as an advisory toward similarly priced by better performing alternatives, then sure.

However, if the Souls truly aren't that bad - I haven't heard them - and are leaning more towards an 'audiophile sound,' then celebrity endorsement would aid in exposing people to higher quality sound. In this regard, I don't see a negative in Ludacris' involvement.

Yeah, i meant that the main reason that head-fiers are assuming they are horrible is caused by Ludacris's involvement, since their thought process is kinda like Celebrity>sounds beats-ish>BASH!

Beats seems more overpriced than Bose is... Soul By Ludacris is not bad in my opinion, they are even better than beats, but still not 100% worth the price :)
