Why the M6 if the sounds blah and V shaped?

The sound isn't that bad.  And I'm suggesting these only as your workout headphones.  If you're using them for only ~5 hours a week (unless you're a nut like me and work out too much), then a lesser sound quality shouldn't be too bad (and they'll really only be background noise as you'll be excersizing).  They stay in very well, which is very important for working out and something you mentioned as desirable.  Finally, while we would all love to be able to listen to our nice $150 and up IEMs all day long, including at the gym, the truth is that they would get torn up.  Besides potential wear and tear from the added movement, the sweat can fry your internals/crystallize on the drivers=broken IEMs (trust me on this one).  Therefore it's always a good idea to use cheaper headphones for the gym if you work out hard/sweat alot, and at $30 the m6s fill this need nicely.  This makes them good IEMs for the gym, but only for the gym (I use my Sennheiser IEMs for other purposes).

i hear these are quite good for general portability http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD800-Over-Ear-Circum-Aural-Headphone/dp/B001OTZ8DA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324610761&sr=8-1

i kid, i kid, i found the M6's to have horrible sibilance i think due to fit issues

Thank you, and I understand what you're saying. However, for the next 2-3 months I'll be training about 15 hours/week; 5+ hours in the gym, and 10+ hours on my bike trainer in the garage (some of that time will be spent watching/listening to movies, etc.). Still, many hours will be spent wearing the headphones. While I don't want to ruin expensive IEMs, I'd like to have some decent sound too.

Hmm that's a little different then...well I guess if you're not running the Senns might work out for you.  They stay in my little bros ears well, but not mine.  Also I guess I'm a little bit above the norm in the intensity of my workouts (I do MMA).  Sound quality is better than the M6s I just hated the fit.  Maybe go by your local Best Buy and check them out, then if you like them buy them for much cheaper online hehehe

Which Senns?

How do the Senns compare to Metro.Fi 220 or Dunu Tridents?

MMA? What's that?

As a competitive bicycle racer, my workouts in both the gym and on my bike trainer can get quite intense too. I'm now in my base training phase.

Mixed Martial Arts.

M6 isn't V-shaped, more like ^-shaped. All mids, not much bass or treble. Still nice to listen to for $10 though. They'll stay in too.

^^^This.  Yea I had an MMA guy for my strength trainer for football back in high school.  I liked their workouts so much I started doing that after I graduated.  I don't do much sparring though (gotta keep the money maker in good shape wink_face.gif) but I agree on the heavy mids.  The senns are the CX680s (the ones I was ripping on earlier).  After reading back through my thread, I admit I was a bit severe...they may work great for your needs, they just don't stay in my ears which bugs the *#$% outta me.  I'd rather have slightly worse sounding phones that stay in better any day.  I'd have loved my Senns if they would've stayed in, maybe they will for you (like I said, they work great for my little bro, who runs cross country).  My problem is the constant bouncing, from running, stadiums, and various other exercises would always knock them out.  Maybe they'll work okay for biking, I don't bike really so I'm afraid I'm not too much help in that area...

I mean, if your working that hard, wouldn't you come to a point when you stop caring about sound?

These things really do never come off once you got a good seal.'

The M6 sound isn't crap, we wouldn't reccomend it to you for no reason.

Just a bit off your sound preference.

M6 is still your best bet,
