Ultrasone HFI-580 vs Sennheiser HD 25 II vs Ultrasone PRO900

yes i know there have been some discussion on these headphones but  cant  seem  to  get  the  right  information  out  of  the  things  I've  searched , unless there is a thread that I've missed out on please point me to the right direction

I am no audiophile but i would like the opinion of people who have experienced the 2 headphones

I am to buy a  Ultrasone  PRO900(310) // Ultrasone HFI-580($130)  //  Sennheiser HD 25 II($190)

i  listen  to  nearly  all  genre,  and  yes  ive  done  research  on  the  ATH-M50  and  they  are  $170

these  prices  are  like  this  because i  live in  Australia

as  far  as  portablity  goes  i  would  be using  these  for  65%  at  home  and  35%  out

I have owned a pair of Dre studios and  would  appreciate  an  upgrade

I have never tried any of the headphones listed above

and  would  much  appreciate  a  comparison  on  the  MIDS,  HIGHS,  LOWS,  TRANSPARENCY  &  SOUNDSTAGE

LETS  PUT  IT  SIMPLE,  I  know  for  a  fact  the  PRO900  can  best  the  other  2  contenders.  BUT does  the  the  price  justifies  the  performance?

I don't have the HD 25-1 II or the HFI-580, but I do the have the HFI-780 and Pro 900.  The latter cost more than twice as much, and it's certainly not twice as good, but it was definitely worth the upgrade to me.  The difference in soundstage and clarity alone were impressive, not to mention the bass and comfort.  I could easily see people not being able to justify the upgrade, but if you're not strapped for cash, I do believe they're a large step up.

If you want the best bang for your buck definately go with the 580s.

That's where I got mine. They're better than the HD 25 II from what I heard from many people. I haven't listened to the HD's myself but that's what I heard. The 900s are great for bass if you have the money, but if I were you i'd go with the 580s.

Cheers.

Yep sure do, although I've seen a few people happy with their Pro 900's with a portable

 Fiio E11.

From what I heard. the pro 900 are sibilance monsters also. confirm?

Well i'll be basing this off all i know and not add in the sibilance of the pro 900's which is still unconfirmed with me/

HFI 580-More bass! STill great vocals and higs  --Hip hop, rap, dubstep, ....everything

HFI 780-LEss bass, slightly better vocals and highs-- same as top. they both do everything well. this is just more "rock" based

Pro 900...if you have the money, yes it's an improvement...but very expensive, and probably not justified from the top reviewer. i say not justified since you are not an audiophile.

My vote is on the HFI 580. since you bought beats, and am a normal non audiophile. MEaning a more bass related preference. Dont' get me wrong about the HFI 580 and since i keeep throwing around bass. breaking benjamin, linkin parl, slipknot, disturbed, mozart, beethoven, lady antabllem, adele, skirllex...sound absolutley amazing with these. if you like a bit of bass heavy stuff more often. these are what you wnat.

The HFI 780's are the same, they are just more for if you have a more tendancy towards rock.

Both the highs, mids and lows are fantastic throughout.

Just out of curiosity what would u guys say about the pro750?

Hi Daviiid~

In fact, I have some experiences with HD25, hfi 780(sorry not 580s, but I tested them several times), pro750 and pro900.

I returned hd-25s after I had used them for a week. The sound was great, well-balanced with "not great but good enough" sound-stage.

For sure, HD-25s are one of the best portable headphone. However, I wear glasses and usually use headphones for many hours, which means "strong clamp" of the HD25s was a big issue for me.

As for the Ultrasone family, I would say definitely pro900s is the best in all aspects except price wink.gif.

I should join the few people(Gwarmi mentioned) who are okay with pro 900s along with  fiio e11 for a "portable use"

I have been with my pro900 for about 10 months. At first, overwhelming bass and sibilance of the pro 900s were something that I had to endure...(yes...it is expensive! lol)

However, after like 2 months( probably more than 400 hours of burn-in) they got much better: tightened bass and less sibilance( I am saying "less" since brightness(?) and analytical sound are the very signatures of the pro 900s.)

Actually,I did A/B tests between my Ultrasone pro 900 and other headphones like shure 940, beyer 880, 770pro, 770, and ultrasone edition 8, pro2900 and etc.

All I can is that the sibilance of the pro 900 isn't too bad. (I kind of like it!)

Plus, some "eq-ing" can help the problem of sibilance, and a proper desktop amp can bring the pro 900s to a different level.

(I know little about desktop amps. What I am saying here is that I can enjoy my pro 900s more with my desktop amp - not expensive one, probably few of you guys on head-fi heard about "Audiofeel ms15a", a Korean amp - ) )

Anyway, I think hfi 580, 780 and pro 750 are great headphones.

Between 580 and 780, as you may already know, 580 has more bass.  For me, 780 sounds better since I really enjoyed the bass punch of hfi780 and its beautiful, yet sometimes aggressive high!.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with the pro750. That's my personal suggestion for following reasons.

1. Simply, simply, the pro750 sounds better than hd-25, hdi580,780 (at least to my ears)

2. Comfort issue. They are more comfortable than others.

3. Not as picky as pro900 in terms of "amping" :

4. Price: cheaper than pro900, no need of an amp--> implied saving!!!

5. Listening to all genres??  Go for pro750, might be better than the pro900 for you.

Pro750 will be a significant upgrade from your current dre. studio.(no need to say, but any of the headphones mentioned in this thread will do it..)

That's one thing that I can guarantee 100%L3000.gif (except comfortability. I do appreciate that of dre. studio.)

p.s. sorry for my English!

wow very very nice impressions on the whole family jdavix! Yeah, the pro 900's i was going to add might be a bit on the expensive side due to the need to amp. i forgot about the series below the 900 pro's and was only think ing hfi and the pro 900 :)

Making it simpler for me to decide

make pro900 100%

and now give me a percentage off the other models

Making it simpler to understand what in getting at is from what I read the pro750 would be 95% of the pro900 in sound and quality? Although I stand corrected

cheers for the help

How about the V-MODA M-80 / V-80? Would the HFI-580 or HD25-1 ii be a better choice for EDM?

the Vmodas are not bass heavy really. all the choices up till now were bass heavy or bass songs. EDM is also bassy. the HFI 580 would be a great choice for it. Skrillex, Electric Light orchestra, Pendulum sounds great on these. dubstep is not EDM but is close. I don't have the HD25's but from what i hear they are great bass. i would say the Ultrasones' are better just due to their over ear nature and 50mm Mylar drivers. if you also need portability the HD25's would be great.. if you are at home, just lightly walk around. the  HFI 580's are it then

How portable are the HFI-580's? I had the Audio Technica ATH-M50S and those were okay for mobile use. Would the HD25-1 ii or M-80 be a better choice? From what you say , it sounds the HD25-1 ii has better bass than the M-80. I have heard the HD25, but not the M-80 and they were pretty good, comfort was a major turn off though. I was thinking of buying the M-80 at RadioShack, try them out side by side with the HD25 at Guitar Center, then return them. The design of the M-80 is also a benefit. Which would be best? 580, HD25, M-80? Also note that I am ordering a pair of Sony XB500's for home use and my bassy needs.
