First post but have a researched question

Hey all ive been reading the forums for the past few days trying to get an idea on what headphones i should buy.

i recently went into a bestbuy and tried on some beat solo's. THAT instantly turned me into a so-call "audio-phile" so i hit the internet

trying to find the best deal on them. but after doing some research ive come to the conclusion that they are very overpriced and if you

are going to spend 200 bucks you could get a better pair. After doing even more research i found the Grado SR225i in my price range

(looking to spend 150-250) but before i spend 180 bucks on some headphones i wanted to get someone elses opinion from these

forums since there seems to be a lot of knowlegeable people here.

I mainly listen to rock/reagge/rap/hip-hop/indie/ and some different generes of "techno". so im going to want some headphones that

have that great bass kick (like the beats i tried on in best buy) but can also sound good when im listening to rock. So i was wondering

if you all think i should go with the Grados, or should i look into something else? the bass is pretty important to me but so is sounding

clean when i listen to non bass heavy music

p.s. i was also thinking about getting a headphone amp, anyone have any suggestions in that field?

All opinions are welcome!! if you have any questions for me just ask!

Well, I think most people here would agree on saying that the Audio Technica ATH-M50s is recommended as a getting started Headphone.

One word of advice, if you hang out here to much, your wallet will take a hit.

Yes there is tons of threads like yours.

Thats what forums are for.

I am not saying the ATH-M50 are the best, I am just saying lots of us started with them and made us want forever more.

Alright. Just a few questions before I suggest anything to you.

1. Where are you going to be using these, on the go or in your home?
2. Do you want around the ear or a pair that rest on the ear?

Just answer those two questions and then I'll tell you some suggestions because I have a lot of suggestions on my mind right now.

I am just going to use them around the house. Maybe on the airplane when I go on trips.
Over the ear is kind of what I'm looking for but resting on the ear is no big deal to me if they are good headphone smily_headphones1.gif

If you already have a headphone amp (which from your first post it looks like you don't) you can pick up a AKG K701 for $250. They sound really nice and scale up decently well with a nice amplifier. If you don't have an amp, I'd go with the Grado SR225i.
