New K702s and need to find an amp

I have just recently purchased some AKG K702s and I have been told that I need an amp to properly power them. I actually took a trip to the closest crutchfield and found Nuforce Icon II and honestly couldn't really tell the difference with or with out the amp. Im not sure if its just not a good amp or what but I know it was a ver expensive little thing, $350. Is this not a good brand or am I missing something. 

Im beginning to get into music production and need an amp with a DAC so thats why those appealed to me. Help please! Btw I have no knowledge of anything related to this subject, I'm very new at this.
