How's the synergy between Shiit Bifrost and M-stage ?

I just bought the m stage and I think I will never go further than that since it's pretty decent in the solid state world.

 

therefore finding something that pairs nicely with it is really important to me, which , as a pcfi er, want to use optical out to a balanced dac. the Bifrost seem analytical and high performance, and the m-stage with it's light warm touch sound really promising.

 

however, its 449 $ is in the class of the most contenders. I would like to know if a yulong d100 will be better than that or not? i'm aware the later is dac amp. 

 

the music I listen to are very vague, from hiphop, to rap, to classical, to old school music, to bachata, to chinese, to pure instruments to.... what ever sounds good.

 

currrently i'm using a pair of k701 fyi, so would this setup go well together? and if you have any other dac in mind please let me know asap.

No need to try pairing sources with amps. You should be going

1. best source you can afford

2. favorite headphones

3. amp that matches the headphones

The amp is oftentimes optional imo.

thx yall, i basically building my rig around the AKG K701 which is a pair of headphone I really really love and want to squeeze every juice of it. therefore I really need a DAC that will be a good source for m-stage and K701, and I just ordered bifrost so let's see what happens in the next few days

Arguably the dumbest part about Head-Fi is kids getting in over their heads after they get a shiny new $400 full-size home headphone, then realizing they have like $100 left to try to budget a garbage source/amp. Well, maybe not as dumb as some of the cable junk that people do. And synergy is very real; a lot of it is just simple electronics. One can kinda reasonably guess synergy by looking simply looking at measurements.

Since headphones affect most of the sound, I'd rather someone spend $400 on headphones and $100 on source than the other way round.
