Heh. I would be honored to review it.

"headphone outputs: silver plated contacts, 2 separate outputs: teramega and superduper, can be used simultaneously"

What's the difference between the two?

This little mp3 has a cool looking. I definitely will get one if it beats hm801 for earbuds. I own lcd2s/hd800s and quite a few bulky amps. None of them drive hd800s fully well. Don't expect this little thing will do the job, it won't happen I guess.

It would be great if you could publish the full specs of your DAPs sonic performance as I saw your on your development page that you measure promising 2nd and 3rd harmonic distortion levels. This will also help in deterring naysayers of your wonderful player.

okay, that was enough popcorn blink.gif

I do not own any of the above headphones, however smial1966 (see earlier this thread) owns HD650 and LCD-2 and has made very (I mean very) positive comments concerning the Koss-Porta-Pro with Tera-Player.

As far as I am aware, he is still using the unmodified Porta-Pro.

You can ask him for his first hand experience.

As for my part, the cans you mention are too big for being counted in the portable listening domain. That does not mean in any way that I consider them superior to the Koss porta pro, it just means, that they are of no interest for me.

Having one of the world's finest high-end systems in my laboratory, running big BYOB speakers, I have built the Tera-Player for portable listening:

I wanted to have the same super-fidelity sound quality anywhere I go - pocketsize.

For completing the development of the Tera-Player, I needed a portable set of headphones that are of superior sound quality and transparency.

During research I noticed that most of today's 'new' headphones were developed to mask the defects of inferior playback equipment.

As a matter of fact, almost all (all - 1) digital audio players deliver just crap at the output. And then people go adding amps, and then they go adding all kinds of headphones just to squeeze the crap.

But if you start with crap from the very beginning, you will never attain to the real thing.

For the Tera-Player I needed a headphone that was a reference standard. And the Koss Porta Pro is this standard. It was developed way before things started going down the drain - way before mp3, way before sigma-delta trash DACs.

The Koss Porta Pro is utterly simple, and in its simplicity lies its truthfulness and transparency.

With the modification shown on the Tera-Player website (17 x 4mm holes in each grille), the Porta Pro's only sonic limitation is being eliminated, and there you have a set of headphones that is of reference standard and you cannot beat reference standard.

I have noticed that the big headphones you mention cost much more, but what can I do but compliment Koss for their porta pro, and hey,  I'm not getting any cash from them LOL :)

Charles :)

This is some high-level trolling right here. 7/10, good job.

So...is anyone going to give it a listen or what? Preferably with a variety of different headphones, of course.

As I've previously written the Tera-Player (TP) is an astonishingly accomplished DAP given it's diminutive size. The sound is holographic, rich and fulsome with a resolving and beguiling musicality. The TP has driven my HD650, LCD-2 and other cans with aplomb.

Cheers.

Well, dfkt has offered to review it. He is a trained audio engineer with an outstanding reputation as a reviewer and owns a great variety of phones. If I were Chucky-X and convinced of my product, I'd take the opportunity...

Just out of curiosity, how long does the battery last? If it didn't have these embarrassing software quirks, I would be more interested in this player.

I agree that Charles should offer up a Tera-Player (TP) for a round robin series of reviews by experienced head-fi users. As the TP really is outstanding and a complimentary review by a credible source will silence the naysayers.

Over to you Charles.

Cheers.

P.S. The battery lasts between 13 - 15 hours depending on volume and headphones used.

What exactly is the point of 24/192kbit? Can anyone hear the difference between that an 24/96?

I'm hoping dfkt gets one to review,...otherwise I feel it's currently a waste of $$$.

I also hope that dfkt reviews the Tera-Player and confirms my assertion that this diminutive device is an outstandingly great sounding DAP.

But even if he doesn't review it, the Tera-Player is categorically NOT a waste of money IMHO.

Cheers.

Considering the price vs value, it IS a waste of $$$ - especially with the single codec support, the mono-block build, and the  screenlessness of the device.
