At first, I didn't know what kind of story it was. Seeing Assassination Classroom didn't really entice me with any kind enthusiasm to read it. I thought it was your typical Shounen manga with lots and lots of meaningless battles and I also find that octopus teacher very weird just by how he looks but I thought I was prejudging it too harshly so I  had a go at it.

And I really, really like it. I consider its plot unique, the comedy is very entertaining without being intellectually degrading and you sense a form of character development and bonding that's not found in many weekly Shounen Jump mangas.

It does sometimes drag by its feet, as usual for a manga published in weekly SJ but I feel that each chapter is a worthwhile event.

Just the usual.
People are not happy with the government, so they are causing some commotion. Violence included.
It's calming down a bit now.

Thailand is having major government protests.

There are people that want different things but the main idea with the 'rebel's is for new government reform and re-ellections at some level. Some want re-elections, some want new government etc.

The rebels are led by some of Thailand's elite and former elite and politicans that have fallen out of favor. Thousands are injured and hundreds are dead as the violent protests spread.

I don't have enough info on what is going on right now. But I would favor stability over anything so squashing rebel protests at any costs ASAP would seem to be the best course of action. The riots are spreading and pouring into professional districts now and clashes are beginning/have begun with military.

Again, I don't have enough info to make a truly informed opinion.

The PM of Thailand and its government is heavilly tied with USA. USA would NOT want a collapse of current Thai leadership. This is a fact. Thailand is one of few major non NATO alllies in Asia. Losing them would be a massive blow to logistics in the area.

Hundreds are dead?
Okay...I only heard about maybe 50 at max.

If I can fit the Stax on my carry-on bag over winter, I will be using the E07k or even just the iPod LOD hooked up to the SRM-212 to power it.

And, a random Thai festival that happened one of the first weekends I was up here in uni:

And by Thai you mean Taiwanese. XD

Western sensationalism and using 'about' 'if' probably' etc statements to make wild number count games.

It's impossible for anyone to know the real number over here that is a civillian

Derp, yes I do. I still get them mixed up from time to time... :confused_face_2:

Also, pretty random, but this is something I helped on over the summer:

And by helped, I mean I just purchased the rights to the stock photos, helped critique existing drafts, and so on. Gah it's such a PITA to negotiate royalties for photos... -_-

And one more random thing while I'm here... Tomorrow I have a paper due where we are supposed to give an opinion on whether technology has increased disconnection in society or not, since someone in California was shot by someone waving a gun around since nobody was looking up past their smartphones and whatnot.

They said I have to have sources, but I tried looking for some studies on the issue, but I didn't come up with much. I definitely plan to use this thread as an example of how technology is NOT making us more disconnected, just connected on a much larger scale to people from across the world.

You have a point there.
I'm not even sure if the government/police over there knows the exact number.
Can't even blame them for that :-P

Not sure about the actual situation there.

I don't trust any news media to 'tell' me what is going on anymore.

Sure, you can't trust every source 100% all the time but that's just how it is.
And most of the time, the major news agencies only differ by like 10% in what they say.
It's better reading slightly "wrong" news, than no news at all.
Being a paranoid conspiracy theory person gets people nowhere.
