「Official」Asian Anime, Manga, and Music Lounge - Page 5676

I would like to address again seriously on a few things that Tilpo said a page back.

Everyone has his own way on obtaining pleasures through Audio. Some is upgrading to more expensive stuff because it leads to a better sound thus experience but I do it differently.
Even if my audio shopping has stopped recently,I could totally see myself buying the TH900 if I had the money, not because it sounds better than the HE-500 (in some way it does and in some way it doesn't) but because it delivers a different experience in sound and in feel and that's why I think it's worth it for me at least. If I would put it in a metaphor, it's like having a Ferrari 458 and a Mercedes SLS AMG. Both are supercars that are capable of more than 320kph but the former is a mid engined precision machine while the latter is a big hammer that only wants to go sideways at each corner. One costs a bit more than the other but each gives a different feeling and trying to feel and live with those differences is what its all about for me.
Hell I would even dare buying the overpriced FAD Piano Forte IX to only listen to classical music just because it can reproduce a unique and addictive sound in the classical genre that not my HE-500 and not even Staxes can even reproduce.

No doubt but I'm sure Joe can tell you that all that can be fixed with EQ.

Because once you reach the ownership of such capable gears, they tend to perform well with EQ as well.

That said, if I had that much money to spend I'd also splurge.

Only thing you need then is a capable EQ. No idea if the Foobar one does its job well (most likely yes). I don't use EQs. But how about portable audio? Sure, Rockbox is cool and everything, but only available on a limited (wnd boring) amount of DAPs.

EQ only shapes its frequency response but does not fix resonances, impulse response, Total Harmonic Distortion, Square wave shapes, decay time and etc. In no way I can replicate the exact sound of a FAD Piano Forte with my modded T50RP. Case in point, I had the Accudio Golden Ears music player that has the capability to flatten the frequency response through EQ of a particular headphone. I tried it with various headphones and earphones and what I noticed is that it makes every headphone sound dull and uninteresting. While each has the same FR, there were still a lot of variations in sound between headphones even if they were EQ to a flat FR.
That's why I don't really use EQ because it takes away the sound that made that headphone or earphone sound special.

My thoughts exactly but some seem to have other views regarding this...

I personally don't know how they modify those values, or claim to, software/source side.

The reason why lately I stopped relying on FR measurement and just plain ol' hearing. Something like the TH900 for me is close to the perfect balance. They make nice tonal balance even if it's not a flat one. SR007 is just remarkably transparent IMO so I have no qualms against that one.

Yeah, anyway, its a good list...ya know.......

Is it wrong for me to be excited for the new Sailor Moon anime whose plans just resurfaced after seemingly falling off the face of the earth?

There is a Sailor Moon Christmas special and they are singing a song in it that refused to get out of my head for at least three weeks.

I hate it when people use cars as an analogy for ___. -_-"

And yeah the Earpods are pretty dang good. When I went to the Apple Store with my friend to get a pair and he let me try them, I had a serious buyer's regret with the M-100 I was comparing it to at 10 times the price.

Lol, glad people are comin around on the earpods. They're excellent bang for the buck phones

I just have the 2. E07k and C&W BH2. I'm considering something a little different to keep as my desktop amp. Maybe not the 2step, something a little "sleekier".

That's not really my point.

I'm saying you don't need all that stuff in the first place. More headphones don't increase your happiness. They can cause momentary pleasure the moment you obtain them. But shortly after that you get used to the fact that the headphones are in your possession and it doesn't become anything special. The music doesn't become any more fun either.
Nothing changes with better or different headphones. It's just that we are cursed with strong craving for more possessions and are rewarded by momentary pleasure when it arrives.

This may sound a bit too pessimistic, since of course you can also enjoy the time spent e.g. comparing different headphones or discussing and reading about head-fi related stuff, but in the end the actual headphones aren't the thing that cause the happiness, even though we are inclined to think so. You can have just as much fun in this hobby when going for low/mid-fi, whereas the costs are much much lower.

That is all.

In regards to having too many hobbies, keep in mind that it all depends on how much you spend in each hobby. It's completely possible to have a bunch of different hobbies and not spend as much as someone who's crazy for one hobby.

For example, anyone who has an SR-009 has spent more on headphones than I have on head-fi, camera-fi, pc-fi, and pen-fi. And I'm just about satisfied with all of those at the moment.

I guess so, I have a lot as well and don't have a problem with cash
