Holy schiit....

Bowei do you ever use your E12 as a portable amp outside your house? I had quite possibly the worst portable listening experience ever since joining Head-Fi. There was RFI noise like there's no tomorrow. Seriously, the noise was absolutely terrible. I had to stop my music because the RFI was so loud. I've never had to stop my music from RFI before, ever.

iPhone 4S -> FiiO L9 -> FiiO E12 -> V-MODA Crossfade M-100 -> my ears

I did. The E12 has above average EFI protection, I had never had any problems.

Is it just radio noise you hear or is it when you turn the volume knob?

Jezus. Seriously? That was a terrible experience for me. I wouldn't be surprised if my hearing was damaged from the loudness of that noise. >.>

The JDS Labs C5 in comparison has pretty much no RFI noise and if there is some, at least I can hear my music over it.

Is it strapped to your iPhone?

Yeah? Who doesn't strap their portable amp to their iPhone?

I heard the typical "radio noise." Volume knob didn't affect anything.

jseaber of JDS Labs specifically contacted me regarding the RFI noise I heard with the C5:

Ah, might want to see what happens with other amps in those same areas. That famous noise you described happens only with certain cell phone towers, especially AT&T's older EDGE (2G) networks. The problem mostly vanished when 3G became popular, then returned with 4G. When you go into a dead zone or area with poor reception, the cell phone tries to find a stronger signal and it's much more likely to send/receive those ugly signals.

It's such a severe problem that Texas Instruments now publishes interference reports specific to most of their opamps:

http://www.ti.com/lit/an/sboz005a/sboz005a.pdf

Sure enough, the places I encounter such noise are dead zones for cell phone reception.

I know I'm not the first person to complain about such noise with the E12 so I'm having a hard time believing they have "higher than average" RMI shielding.

Well, the thing is, if you are going to be strapping a portable amp to a phone, you should have done research. Plain and simple

From what I see, 70% of the amps on the market right now do not have adequate EMI protection and do get some level of noise.

Above average thus means that the E12 from what CLIEOS last did, is better than most amps at EMI protection. Of which most amps pretty much suck at protecting against it.

Where did the 70% number come from? blink.gif

Also, define: adequate. I don't recall my hand-built Tangentsoft CMoy having this much noise...

87% of statistics came out of the ass, mice.

An ass created number using amps that CLIEOS has on his portable shootout list. Must suck with EMI

First of all, the E12 isn't even in the list. Second of all that's a list of 12 amps. I don't think 12 amps represents the hundreds of amps out there.

Pretty much. I think I fail at statistics since I did poorly in that class both in high school and in college. :(

I know of 2 places near where I live where cell phone reception is poor so I at least can get reproducible results. I have no idea how he rates his things, nor how reproducible they are.

Again, number pulled out my my furry arse(or is it white or black?)

Anyway, you are indeed using it with a phone that inputs and outputs radio frequency and other signals.

You fail at statistics class? I pull numbers out of my ass? What grade do I get?> wink.gif

I'm an idiot, but oh gosh if Seo Kouji hasn't already whipped me into shape into being a follower of Kimi no Iru Machi

First episode is out on AT

No, mice, it's not the matter if you failed statistics or not, it's just that whenever statistics comes out, it's 79% not true and coming out the ass.

And?  So are 90% of users of other portable headphone amps tongue.gif

Meh.  Out and about I just listen directly out of the phone.  And that experience has just been enhanced 1000% with this program biggrin.gif
