Oh boy, now you wish you didn't ask that question, as I have a few non-mainstream ones I enjoy to screw your minds with! biggrin.gif

-Onani master kurosawa: F-ing great story, IMO. Set in a high school setting, basically about the growth of the quite interesting characters. Have one huuuuge barrier of entry though: the main protagonist basically masturbates and how he, and the others around him, copes. Very much better than it sounds.

-Wakusei no samidare: Another great story, but this time no Wall of Squick for entry. It's a modern fantasy setting; a save the world setting involving instead of heroes with powers, it's animal partners with powers. A very under-appreciated manga that bleh mainstream manga overshadowed. The vibe I get is a more mature shonen. (Technically it is seinen, but somehow it has shonen vibe.).

-Oyasumi punpun: very cynical manga that makes you hate humans. No actually it is a manga about the trials and tribulations of a kid growing up, but viewed in a very cynical light. I myself have stopped in chapter 100 or something, because by that time the cynicism is too heavy LOL.

-Shingeki no kyojin: Humans are almost extinct, and are now living in fortress-cities. Outside the walls are cannibal giants that eats humans for no reason but just for lolz. The art is a bit messy at the start, but it gets better. Quite gory.

-Franken fran: WARNING: very gory and very not safe for work (NSFW). A manga series with slightly disjointed story, about a "scientist" and her clients' requests: such as plastic surgery, cloning, making you a kamen rider, experimental reviving medical method, etc. Not for the weak of heart, mind and stomach. Emphasis on mind.

-Battle angel alita: another under appreciated manga, and a fighting one too! Also goes by the name of GUNNM (don't ask why). Set in a dystopian future, a mega city of junkyards, tells a story of growth of a female cyborg brought back to life. It was said that, at the time of writing this manga, around something something, the mangaka is having depression problems, so don't expect a very mainstream story. The story is very deep and fascinating; it made me think, and I like it very much. And it has a sequel that is more mainstream because the mangaka is not depressed.

-Otoyomegatari: a very beautifully drawn manga, set in Mongolia during the Genghis Khan period I believe. Can't say any other because I haven't picked it up in a while, other than it is very very very very detailed and beautiful.

-Cradle of monsters: take High school of the dead (from here on I shall call it zombie boobs school), take away the fan service and ecchi focus, put the students is a sinking, upside-down cruise ship, and zombies.

-Yotsubato!: Read it. Love it. I'll hunt you down if you hate it, and bury you alive. Very lighthearted series about a 4 year old girl and how she live life.

I hope you like this particular Pandora box. I have a few more boxes left unopened.very_evil_smiley.gif

mmhrmrmrmangafox. k. BUT you read onani master too! wow. So far to almost everyone I recommend to read that had came out liking it. YOU guys should read it too. There are other manga I read that I didn't post, but that's mostly because I don't think it's too, shall we say, eccentric. Oh and from all those I listed, only Onani master kurosawa, wakusei (alternatively hoshi) no samidare, and battle angel alita are completed. So there.

No you misunderstand. Those are the eccentric ones. The other ones are pretty not that, but none of the mainstream bleh. Well except one piece. The other ones... Bleach is a massive troll, fairy tail is a massive friendship is magic, except its not ponies. And the others... bleh. I'm hipster this way.

EDIT: You know what, I think I should shop in some hipster glasses on my avatar.

EDIT2: Someone will cry. SO here it is. otaku no musume san (FR), gundam sousei (FR), 20th century boys, O/A, muhyo to rouji (y u got licensed?!), bokke-san (FR), milk closet (FR), yakitate! japan (FR), banana no nana, keroro gunso (y u got licensed?!), most things by Junji Ito, Reversible! (its a trap!).

(FR) stands for finished reading, not freq response.

Just out of curiosity, did you find any of your fave mangas turned into anime and check them out?

Dislike keroro gunso's anime because it's too kiddified. Never seen yakitate japan. I know 20th century has a live action movie, never seen it yet. And from my wall of text up there, there is no anime adaptation. It is rumored though that BAA is going to be adapted into a movie series by James Cameron, which he is a big fan of BAA. SO if it turns out real, I am stoked for that. Otherwise, I either read the manga and never bothered with the anime adaption, and vice versa (anime first, then manga).

EDIT: Good night.

Still watching Moretsu Pirates...And wow, the Odette II is an odd ship. An IFF system on a cruiser? A civilian one at that too.

"Is this supposed to be a civilian ship's radar? It isn't a navy flagship..."

Pretty cool show though. Slow pacing but it's enjoyable where you actually want to watch the next episodes.
